Visiting Restaurant Kiosk, located on the promenade of Lake Zürich (Zürichsee), you wouldn’t think of its dark past. In the 70’s the original kiosk was heavily batteredチューリッヒ川沿いの遊歩道にあるレストラン・キオスクに行くと、その暗い過去など想像もつかないだろう。70年代、元々あった店は荒廃し、その地域は犯罪の巣窟となっていた。
スイス人建築家のガブリエル・ハクラー＆アンドレア・フーリマンが、その後新しく建物を建てた際に、「チューリッヒハーバーのパビリオン」と名前を変え、新しい生命を吹き込まれた。完成するとすぐに、そのカラフルな建物は、ヨーロッパのベストカラー賞を獲得した。
その半透明の外観を通して、様々な色の影が湖に反射するのが見える。色とりどりだが、同時にそのミニマルで洗練されたデザインが、その建物を周囲の自然と一体化させてもいるのだ。2004年5月に新しくレストラン・キオスクとしてオープンし、今では簡単なカプチーノ、 ケーキや自家製パスタやパンなどを楽しめる。
静かな朝は、公園の職員が、通りの落ち葉を掃除しているくらいだ。それともうひとつ、隣にある公衆トイレにはぜひ行ってみてほしい。まるで人気のナイトクラブにあるようなトイレだからだ。すべてがメタル製で、そのカラフルで半透明の壁から日の光が射すのである。湖に入ったときには（そう、夏には湖で泳ぐこともできる）小さいけどきれいなそのトイレで着替えることもできる。
湖の美しい景色と青々と茂る緑とこの新しいキオスクで、スイスを堪能することができるだろう。

Translation: Kei Shimizu and the area was a hub of crime. When the building was newly rebuilt by award-winning Swiss architects, Gabrielle Hächler and Andreas Fuhrimann, and was renamed “Pavilion at Zürichhorn Harbor”, it was given a new life.
Immediately after completion, the colorful architecture was awarded a “Best of Europe – Colour”. Through its translucent facade you can see the lake in different shades of color. Despite a burst of colors, the architecture somehow manages to blend with the surrounding nature due to its minimal, refined design.
Newly opened as Restaurant Kiosk in May 2004, it now serves the park visitors not only cappuccino and cake but also delicious home-made pasta and bread.
For appetizers, there is a variety of salads and soups such as Baby Spinach Salad with Parmesan cheese (13.50 CHF) or Cream of Tomato Soup (8.50 CHF). Kiosk’s specialty is home-made pasta, ranging from Tagliatelle alla Nonna (22.50 CHF) with ham, bacon, and peas to Spaghettini all’Arabiata (18.50 CHF), thin spaghetti with peperoncini and pepperoni.
Many people stop by Kiosk for cappuccino (5 CHF) and sweets (from 6.50CHF) during a walk along the lake or to chat with friends in the outside seating on a sunny afternoon.
Avoid coming on the busy weekends, when families and couples crowd this joint, but do come before lunch on weekdays. You can easily get a table of your choice and read Zürich’s newspaper “Tages Anzeiger”, while park employees sweep the fallen leaves in the promenade in the quiet morning.
Another tip is a visit to the adjoining public bathroom that looks like it belongs to a popular night club. Everything is made of metal, and sunlight pours through its colorful and semi-translucent walls. When you dip in the lake (yes, you can swim in the lake in the summer), you can quickly change your bikini in this small but clean bathroom.
With a great view of the lake and the lush foliage, you will find even more reason to rejoice Switzerland at this contemporary kiosk.
