チューリッヒ美術館Kunsthaus Zurich

The Kunsthaus expansion project is getting going. The location of the new buildings is a hot issue. Now there are two gymnasiums on the grounds of the cantonal high schoolチューリッヒ美術館の拡張計画が進行中である。その次の新しい場所が話題となっている。その場所は、現在州立高校のグラウンドで、２つの体育館がある。組織としてのシナジー効果を加味せずとも、拡張計画を実現するべき理由は、以下の２つである。まず第１に、広いチューリッヒの都市の中で、新旧両方のものが共存しあえる場所は唯一ここだけであり、第２に、象徴となる建物を建てたり、２つのジムや期間限定の建造物を無くしてしまえば、チューリッヒという町は、その場所を都会的な印象にさせる力を持っているのである。
２つの特別なアートイベントで、新しい時代が切り拓かれる。そのひとつである“ユーロポップ”は、楽しくてわくわくするような50年代から70年代のヨーロッパ・ポップアートである。アンディー・ウォーホールを代表としたアメリカのアーティストがポップアートを牽引したとしても、そもそものムーブメントはヨーロッパで生まれたものであり、そのユーロポップの展示では、驚くべき発見をすることになるだろう。写真家エドワード・スタイケンの作品は、スターやファッションのような、それまであまり注目されなかったモノに焦点を当てている。

Even without considering organizational synergies, the expansion must be realized at the Heimplatz for two reasons: This is the only location where old and new can meld and become one significant site within the larger Zurich cityscape, and secondly, the city of Zurich can upgrade the site urbanistically by inserting a representative building and eliminating the two gyms and temporary structures behind them.
The new year will begin with two extraordinary art events: “Europop” will offer a kaleidoscope of exiting as well as equally entertaining examples of European Pop Art from the 1950s to the 1970s. Even though Andy Warhol and American artists determined the direction of Pop Art, the movement was born in Europe and the exhibition will allow for surprising discoveries. The exhibition with master photographs by Edward Steichen puts light on a rather neglected aspect of this medium: glamour, stars and fashion.
