Tokyo is one of the most exciting cities in the world. Although Kita Aoyama Salon is situated in a building that contains landmark cafes of Gaienmae Station like “sign” and “OFFICE“世界でも刺激的な都市のひとつと言われる東京。「北青山サロン」は外苑前のランドマーク的なカフェ、「sign」や「OFFICE」と同じビルにありながら、まだまだその存在は一部の人のものであるように思う。看板はなく、地下に続く閉ざされた扉からは中をうかがい知ることもできず、“世界でも認められたバー”という賞賛だけが一人歩きしては敷居が高いというものだ。しかしながら、その扉の奥に広がる日常を遮断するかのような深い闇と揺れるキャンドルの炎に照らされる小空間の中で、実にゆったりと大人たちが寛ぎ、バーを愉しんでいる。
ヴィンテージモダンを基調にデザインされしっとりと落ち着いた空間は、ヨーロッパやアフリカから集められたインテリアで構成されている。黒い革張りのマットレスがある個室（チャージ 10,000円 / 時間制限なし）とテーブル席が３つ、わずか４席のカウンターチェアは夜の帳（とばり）が下りるにつれて、深くしっかりと身体を捉え、沈み込む座り心地だ。ニューヨークで修行していたというバーテンダーがつくるドリンクを、目前で観賞しながらオーダーを待つのもバーの楽しみのひとつだろう。そして、写真よりも圧倒的な暗闇と揺れる炎がもたらす人間の心理効果をどう解釈し、駆け引きに活かすか。それこそが、「北青山サロン」がプレゼンテーションする大人の遊び場なのかもしれない。
夏には桃やマンゴー、冬にはイチゴ、巨峰、林檎、みかんなど、季節のフルーツとシャンパンを使用したフレッシュ・フルーツ・カクテル（1,600円〜）は、素材や色、甘さの希望などを伝えれば、香り豊かなオリジナルカクテルをつくってくれる。また生姜や紫蘇、わさびを使用したドライ・カクテルは男性に人気が高く、シガーの他にも、フッカーと呼ばれる水タバコ（3,200円 / 40分) はオレンジや林檎、メロンなどのフレーバーに合わせて、ここでは独自にワインやリキュールを入れ、ユニークなスタイルで提供しているのでリピーターも多い。開店時間を早め、フードメニューも充実させた「北青山サロン」。魚介のダシがきいていて、新たなシメにおすすめなのが「真鯛と天使の海老のラグー タリオリーニ」（1,500円）だそう。
食前酒を「北青山サロン」で、そんな使い方も素敵だ。

Text: mina, it’s not widely known. From the closed unmarked door, we can’t see what the basement bar is like. It is often picked up by foreign magazines as a place to visit in Tokyo. Perhaps this makes the bar so prestigious and special. In the dark small space with warm candles, feel laid back and enjoy the atmosphere.
The interior that designed with vintage modern motif contains imported furniture from Europe and Africa and makes up a comfortable space. There are a private room (cover charge 10,000 yen / unlimited times), three tables and four counter seats. When you are waiting for your beverages, it would be fun to see a bartender who learned in New York mixing drinks for you.
Enjoy fresh fruit cocktails made from champagne and seasonal fruits like peaches and mangos in summer and strawberry, kyoho grapes, apples and oranges in winter. (1,600 yen~) They make original cocktails for you if you order concrete ingredients, colors and sweet. Dry cocktails made from ginger, perillas and Japanese horseradish are popular among men. They serve not only cigars but also hookah (3,200 yen / 40 min) in unique style with orange, apple or melon flavor and wine or liqueur. Food menu offers variety of choices. New recommendation is seafood ragu taliolini with bream. (1,500 yen)
