Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo is one of the most famous contemporary art museums, located next to Kiba Park, in the east area of Tokyo. Since its opening in 1995, the museum has held many important exhibitions東京の東側、木場公園の隣に位置するのが、現代美術を扱う美術館として、日本でももっとも有名な美術館のひとつである東京都現代美術館。1995年に開館してから、数多くの貴重な展覧会を開いてきた。現代美術において重要な作品を含む、約4,000点の収蔵作品で構成される、現代美術の流れを展望できる常設展示は必見。
また、大規模な国際展をはじめとする特色ある企画展示など、絵画、彫刻、ファッション、建築、デザイン等幅広く現代美術に関する展覧会を開催している。また、約100,000冊の貴重な美術関係資料を扱う図書室が一般にも解放されているのが嬉しい。展示に加えて、ワークショップや講演会なども多く開かれており、玄関スペースや中庭にも作品が展示されていたりと、さまざまに楽しめる。
ナディフによるミュージアムショップが2009年にリニューアルされて、さらに利用しやすくなった。また、地下にあるレストラン「CONTENT」は外に面しているので、日光が入り明るく開放的な雰囲気で、展覧会を見た後、ゆっくりと寛ぐのにおすすめ。ちょっとお茶で一息入れたい人には２階に、アジアンテイスト溢れる「Cafe Hai」もある。また、ミュージアムショップの奥にあるトイレの壁の模様は、マイケル・リンがデザインしており、一見の価値あり。
美術を堪能したあとは、隣にある木場公園を散歩するのも気持ちがいい。また、近くには、小山登美夫ギャラリーやHIROMI YOSHII、シュウゴアーツなど、日本の主要ギャラリーが入ったビルもあるので、あわせて訪れてみてはいかがか。

The museum regularly holds major international exhibitions as well as contemporary art exhibitions of a wide variety of works of paintings, sculpture, fashion, architecture and design. Featuring about 1000,000 significant art books, their library is open to the public. In addition to exhibitions, you can enjoy other events such as workshops and lectures. Some of those events are often held at the courtyard.
Their museum shop managed by NADiff was renewal opened in 2009. There is a restaurant “CONTENT” at the basement floor, facing toward outside which will let sun light coming inside the space and create open atmosphere for your relax moment after enjoying exhibitions. If you like to rest a short while, there is an asian cafe “Cafe Hai” located at the second floor. It’s worth seeing the wall decoration designed by Michael Lin in a restroom located at the back of museum shop.
After fully enjoying art, it’s also great hanging around Kiba Park for a walk. There is also a building that houses several Japanese major galleries including Tomio Koyama Gallery, HIROMI YOSHII and Shugo Arts, which you might want to visit as well.
