ロング・バーLong Bar
1900年代初頭に改良された路線や道路を旅しながら、ヤシの木ゴムと油のプランテーションオーナー達は週末になるとマラヤからシンガポールに避難していたことから、まもなく「プランター達の週末」としてシンガポールに定着したFormerly known as “Rendezvous of Planters” (as travel by rail and road improved in the early 1900s, 「ロング・バー」。その名残である以前は「ランデブー・オブ・プランターズ」として知られていたが、数回の移転を経て、現在はラッフルズ・ホテル内にある。何といっても有名なのは、1915年にロング・バーで一人のバーテンによって作り出され、その特徴的な形で有名な世界中に広まった、伝説的ホットピンクカクテル「シンガポール・スリング」。現在は一日におよそ2000杯も飲まれているそうである。
いたって素朴な内装は、1920年代マレー半島の農民生活からヒントを得たもので、常連たちにはその濃くて鮮やかな色と緑の思わず南国農園を訪れたかのような雰囲気が人気である。くつろいだ空気が流れるここでは、ピーナッツの皮を剥いて床に捨てても大丈夫。シンガポール内でも唯一のポイ捨てが推奨されている場所ではないだろうか。タイル張りの床には東洋的な絨毯で飾られ、家具は伝統的な着色された籐材で出来ている。外のベランダには籐のラウンジ・チェアーや木製のテーブルが並ぶ。また１階と２階は木製の螺旋階段で繋がっている。上の席はチーク材のラウンジ・チェアとなっており、その趣を楽しむことが出来る。
メニューはランチの他にも、フィッシュ＆チップスなど伝統的なパブの食事が味わえ、またマレーシア・サテやイカのフライなど軽食も用意されている。夜には、バンドによるヒット曲の演奏も堪能出来る。

Translation: Yuki Minerubber & oil palm plantation owners from Malaya would retreat to Singapore during their weekend and the “Planter’s Weekend” soon became a ritual in Singapore), Long Bar was first located at Cad’s Alley. It was not a formal bar – but tables were placed next to one another, facing Brash Basah Road, – a vantage point from which male visitors surveyed the procession of ladies.
In 1921, it was relocated to face Beach Road. (the right side of the Old Ballroom) This was when the bar took its name, for its bar counter occupied the entire breadth of the Ballroom, which was about 40 ft long.
In the early 1980s, it was relocated again, this time to the left side of the old Ballroom, still facing Beach Rd.
Since the restoration in 1991, the historic Long Bar has found a new home at Level 2, Raffles Hotel Arcade, where visitors continue to undergo one of the true rites of passage of world travel – savouring a Singapore Sling, the legendary hot pink cocktail with a reputation of iconic proportions, having travelled the world since its creation in 1915 at the Long Bar by Hainanese-Chinese barman, Ngiam Tong Boon. (Some 2000 Slings are served each day)
The earthy decor of the two-story Long Bar is inspired by Malayan plantation life in the 1920s. The deep, rich colours and greenery bring patrons back to the edge of the tropical plantation. In keeping with the relaxed atmosphere, guests are invited to brush peanut shells off the table and bar-top to the floors; quite possibly the only place in Singapore where ‘littering is encouraged’.
The tiled floors are graced with oriental carpets and the furniture is traditional stained cane and rattan. Outside, along the verandah that wraps around the Bar, are cane and rattan lounge chairs and wooden tables. A timber spiral staircase connects the two levels of the Long Bar while the seating above is interspersed with teak lounge chairs.
The lunch menu complements the bar list with traditional pub foods such as Fish and Chips, Long Bar Chicken Wings, Chilli Tiger Prawn on Stick and Rotisserie Sarawak Peppercorn Striploin. There is also a wide selection for snacks like Malaysian Satay, Deep Fried Crispy Calamari and Plantation Burger.
In the evenings, a seven-piece show band performs a selection of contemporary and popular hits.
