Located in Yuishuku, the 16th lodging town of the Tokaido, the Shizuoka City Tokaido Hiroshige Museum of Art opened in 1994 as the first museum in Japan to be named after the Edo1994年に東海道16番目の宿場町「由比宿」の本陣跡地に開館した、江戸時代の浮世絵師・歌川広重の名を日本で最初に冠した美術館。広重の代表作「東海道五拾三次之内（保永堂版）」や、ゴッホが模写した事で知られる「名所江戸百景 亀戸梅屋舗」、そして世界に数点しかないと言われる「木曽海道六拾九次之内中津川（雨の景／雨の中津川）」などの名品を中心に約1,400点を収蔵している。
2013年4月より「新たな浮世絵文化発信」を目指し、アート、デザイン、ポップカルチャーなど、浮世絵と現代作品をつなぐ企画展を開催。セミナーやギャラリートークなど、関連事業も随時実施する。
館内には、企画展を行う大展示室、小展示室 の他、浮世絵の基礎知識を知ることができる常設展示がある。また、浮世絵作品を題材に版画を体験できる「摺り版画コーナー」を設置するなど、“広重”や“東海道”をキーワードに、江戸文化への理解を深めることができる。

Ukiyo-e artist Hiroshige Utagawa.
The collection contains about 1,400 works, mainly masterpieces such as Hiroshige’s representative works “Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido” (Hoeido version), the “Plum Garden at Kameido” from the “One Hundred Famous Views of Edo” – famous for being copied by Vincent Van Gogh, and one of only a few prints in the world of “Nakatsugawa (Ame no kei / Ame no Nakatsugawa)” from the “Sixty-nine Stations on the Kisokaido” series.
From April 2013, aiming “to provide new Ukiyo-e culture”, exhibitions are planned to connect Ukiyo-e with contemporary works like art, design, pop culture. Also seminars and gallery talk events will be held periodically.
Aside from the large and small exhibition rooms for curated exhibits, there is a permanent exhibition space where one can learn the basics about Ukiyo-e, as well as a Ukiyo-e themed printing corner where visitors can try their hand at printing. With the keywords of Hiroshige & Tokaido, one can dig deeper into Edo culture at the museum.
