Located on the Ippekiko Keyaki Street in Izu Shizuoka, Ikeda Museum of 20th Century Art was opened in 1975 as one of Japan’s full-fledged contemporary art museum established by the late Eiichi Ikeda1975年、伊豆の一碧湖（いっぺきこ）けやき通りに誕生した池田20世紀美術館。ニチレキ株式会社（旧 日瀝化学工業）の創設者である故池田英一氏が、個人資産を寄付して設立された日本初の本格的な現代美術館だ。
美術館外壁は、建設当時日本で初めてというステンレススチール張りで、設計は彫刻家の井上武吉によるもの。入口から出口まで有機的に連なるユニークな空間造形となっている。
所蔵作品は、「人間」をテーマにした20世紀に制作された絵画や彫刻を中心に約1300点を収蔵。ルノワール、ボナール、ピカソ、マチス、レジェ、シャガール、ココシュカ、ミロ、ダリ、デ・クーニングなど、海外の巨匠による作品の他、日本の異色作家の力作を観覧することができる。その中から常設展では、約100点を展示している。また、３ケ月ごとに特別展も開催されている。

Designed by a Japanese sculptor Bukichi Inoue, the museum exterior wall was finished with stainless steel panels, which were utilized for the first time in Japan at that time. The museum will offer you an unique experience to walk through the interior space, which continues organically from the entrance to the exit.
The museum houses about 1300 pieces, mainly paintings and sculpture, made in the 20th century with a theme on ‘human’. Their collection includes masterpieces by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Pierre Bonnard, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Fernand Léger, Marc Chagall, Oskar Kokoschka, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, and Willem de Kooning, as well as other works created by Japanese unique artists. The permanent exhibition displays about 100 pieces among these collections, while a special exhibition is organized every 3 months.
