Minsheng Art Museum is located in 570 West Huaihai Rd, Red Town, Shanghai. An exhibition titled “Thirty Years of Chinese Contemporary Art” was carried out民生現代美術館は、上海市淮海通り570号のレッド・タウンと呼ばれるアートエリアに位置する。2010年4月18日「中国コンテンポラリーアート30年の道筋」と題したエキシビションが行われ、美術館がオープンした。
以前この建物は上海第十鉄鋼工場だった。現在は５つのエキシビションスペースとなっている。レクチャールーム、VIPルーム、本の閲覧コーナー、カフェ、資料閲覧室等の関連施設も備えられている。総面積およそ4000m2の現代美術館。それぞれ色も形も違う建物が並ぶレッド・タウン内で、ひときわシンプルなシルバーグレーの外観をもつ。
民生現代美術館は中国民生銀行によって設立された。金融機関が公益的なアートを支えるのは、中国本土において初めてである。ここでは、国際的な視野で中国のアートを研究している。そして世界でも最先端なアートとの交流やコラボレーションを積極的に行っている。2010年4月のUCCA（ユーレンス現代美術センター）との連携は、国内の非営利美術機構と国際アートセンターとのコラボレーションの先駆けとなった。
大きな空間を生かした展示は、美術館ならではと言える。コンテンポラリーアートの展示が主で、中国国内、ベルギーや韓国、様々な国の比較的若いアーティストが多い。過去に開催された「中国コンテンポラリーアート30年の道筋」、「ブリュッセル身体言語」、「三部作リュウ・ウェイ個展」等のエキシビションは、アート界や社会から大きな反響を得た。
展示以外にも、国内外の学術交流活動の開催、公衆に向けたコンテンポラリーアートや美学の教育を行っている。ときおり開かれる国内外のアーティストやアート関係者を招いてのレクチャーは興味深いものがある。作品展示だけではなく、アートで人々を内側から豊かにすることも美術館の役目である。“アート”と気を張らず、立ち寄ってみてはどうだろう。

This building was Shanghai Tenth Steel Factory before. Now, it has five exhibition spaces. It also has related facilities such as lecture room, VIP room, book corners, café, and research space. The museum is 4,000 square meters large. Its silver gray simple appearance catches eyes in Red Town where buildings differ in colors and shapes.
Minsheng Art Museum is founded by China Minsheng Banking Corporation. It is the very first example in mainland China that a financial institution supports public art. It studies Chinese art with an international perspective, and performs exchange and collaboration with the world leading art scene. The cooperation with UCCA of April, 2010 became the pioneer of the collaboration of the domestic nonprofit art organization and international art center.
It may be said that the exhibition profiting big space is a characteristic of a museum. Mostly featuring contemporary art, there are many relatively young artists of various countries, such as China, Belgium and Korea. The exhibitions held in the past such as “Thirty Years of Chinese Contemporary Art” “Brussels Body Speech” “Trilogy: LIU WEI solo show” got a big reaction from art world and the society.
Besides exhibitions, the museum offers academic exchange activities and educational programs of contemporary art and the aesthetics open for public. Lectures with invited domestic and foreign artists and specialists are occasionally held, there is an interesting thing. As well as exhibitions, it is a role of the museum to cultivate people from inside. How about dropping in at Minsheng Art Museum, forgetting about prestigious “art”?
