札幌市資料館Sapporo Shiryokan

Sapporo Shiryokan is located in Odori Park known as one of landmarks of Sapporo. We can feel the history from its magnificent look札幌のシンボルともいえる大通公園の中にある「札幌市資料館」。1926（大正15）年に建てられた重圧な外観はまさにその歴史を感じさせる。また、札幌軟石を使用した建造物としては最大規模で、1997年5月には国の登録有形文化財にも登録されている。
元々は札幌控訴院として建てられ、後に札幌高等裁判所として利用されたが、裁判所の移転に伴い、1973年に札幌市資料館としてオープンした。こうした経緯により、入り口の門には「法の女神」というレリーフが彫られている。
現在は札幌の歴史と文化を紹介する施設として多くの人が訪れている。様々な展示品やパネルが飾られており、街づくりの歴史や、法と司法などについて紹介している。また、札幌出身の画家・漫画家、おおば比呂司の資料を展示した記念室もある。
資料館の裏庭に広がる森は街中の憩いの場として市民に親しまれている。資料館は大通公園の西端に位置している。大通公園の東端にはテレビ塔があり、その間13丁目に渡って公園が続いている。毎年２月に公園内で行われる「さっぽろ雪まつり」では、資料館もライトアップされ、たくさんの観光客が訪れる。

Text: Ayano Yamada. It is the biggest architecture made of Sapporo Nanseki (a kind of tuff) and designated by The Agency for Cultural Affairs.
Originally it was built as Sapporo Court of Appeals and later it was used as Sapporo High Court. In 1973, Sapporo High Court moved and it was reopened as Sapporo Shiryokan. Then we can see the relief “Hou no Megami” (Themis) at the entrance.
Sapporo Shiryokan is a place where introduce the culture and history of Sapporo. It shows many objects and panels mainly about history of building Sapporo and law and justice. There is also a memorial room for Hiroshi Ohba a painter and caricaturist from Sapporo.
The backyard is known as a good relaxation space in the downtown. It is located in the east end of Odori Park. The park spreads for 13 blocks between Sapporo Shiryokan and Sapporo TV Tower that is located in the west end. During the Sapporo Snow Festival in February, Sapporo Shiryokan is also lighted up and crowded with many tourists.
