ROYCE’ chocolate is known as one of the standard sweets in Hokkaido. Established in Sapporo in 1983, ROYCE’ delivers a variety of sweets made in the town Tobetsucho, about 25 km away from the downtown Sapporo北海道スイーツの定番として知られるロイズのチョコレート。1983年に札幌に創業したロイズコンフェクトによるチョコレートを始めとするお菓子の数々は、札幌の中心部から約25kmほど北上した、雄大な自然に囲まれた美しい田園風景の広がる当別町太美にある工場で製造され、道内各所に点在する直営店へと運ばれる。
ロイズの代表的なお菓子のひとつに「生チョコレート」（写真）がある。厳選したカカオ、こだわりの洋酒、北海道産の生クリームが織りなすロイズの生チョコレートは、絹のようになめらかな口どけが特徴で、きめ細やかで豊かな食感を楽しむことができる。定番の［オーレ］、［ホワイト］、［マイルドカカオ］、［ビター］、［シャンパン（ピエール・ミニョン）］に加え、フルーツや洋酒など様々なテイストでつくる、バラエティ豊かな生チョコレートを月替わりで楽しめる期間限定商品も展開している。
生チョコレート以外にも、ポテトチップの塩味とチョコレートの甘さが絶妙な「ポテトチップチョコレート」や、くるみとマシュマロを閉じ込めた新食感のチョコレートを提案した「クルマロチョコレート」などバリエーション豊富なチョコレートの他、子供と一緒に楽しめる「ロイズキッズ」シリーズ、焼き菓子やクッキーなど、楽しいおいしさを多数取り揃えている。ラインナップの数々は、オンラインショップの他、道内のみにある13カ所の直営店で購入可能。
札幌中心部で立ち寄るには、大通公園に面したビル内にある札幌大通店がおすすめ。チョコレートやお菓子の数々が所狭しとディスプレイされた店内には、カフェスペースもあり、コーヒーやショコラショーなどのドリンク類やアイスクリームが楽しめる他、店内で販売されているロイズ商品を購入して店内で食べることもできる。札幌の街を散策した後、オリジナリティ溢れるロイズのチョコレートと共に至極のひと時を過ごしてみてはいかがだろう。

The most famous confection for ROYCE’ is ‘Nama Chocolate’ (photo). Nama means “fresh, raw or rare” and this refers to the fresh cream they used which has never been cooked. Nama Chocolate is made of carefully-selected cacao, liqueur, and Hokkaido-made fresh cream, which you can enjoy its soft and velvety taste. In addition to the basic items of Au Lait, Bitter, Mild Cacao, Champagne, and White, ROYCE’ offers limited numbers of monthly produced Nama Chocolate with different flavors selected for the season.
Besides Nama Chocolate, there are various lineups such as crispy potato chips with melting -on-the-lips chocolate “Potatochip Chocolate” and fragrant semi-milk chocolate with the gianduja of hazelnuts and almonds “Nutty Bar Chocolate”, the “ROYCE’ Kids” series, baked sweets and cookies. These products can be purchased at the online shop (in Japan only) and at the 13 shops located only in Hokkaido.
If you are visiting in the downtown Sapporo, try to visit one of the direct management shop, Sapporo Odori Shop, located in a building at Odori. With a full of chocolates and confections displayed, the shop offers you a cafe space where you can sit down to enjoy coffee, hot chocolate, and ice creams. You can also eat-in the ROYCE’ products which you purchased at the shop. Recommend visiting here if you want to relax with ROYCE’ chocolate for a moment after walking around the town of Sapporo.
