Hokkaido Museum introduces the nature, history and culture of Hokkaido. It stands in the Nopporo Forest Park with the beautiful wall of brick, where visitors could reach here within北海道博物館は、JR森林公園駅からバスで5分、地下鉄新さっぽろ駅から15分ほどの野幌森林公園内にある、レンガの壁面が美しい総合博物館。園内には百年記念塔や、野外博物館である開拓の村、自然ふれあい交流館なども隣接している。
入ってすぐに巨大なナウマンゾウとマンモスの復元全身骨格が出迎える総合展示室は、１階と２階を合わせて3,000㎡の広さがあり、「北東アジアのなかの北海道」「自然と人とのかかわり」をコンセプトとして、北海道の自然・歴史・文化が５つのテーマで、さまざまなメディアを使って紹介されている。
さらに、特別展、企画テーマ展、蔵出し展、クローズアップ展示など、普段は見られない資料や作品を見られる展覧会も年に数回開催。土・日・祝日には、総合展示のみどころを１時間程度で解説するハイライトツアーを始め、さまざまなイベントが開催されており、館内には図書室やカフェもある。
公式ホームページでは、収蔵資料約180,000点の中から約14,000点が公開されているほか、アイヌ語の録音資料を聞くこともできる。北海道の過去と現在のすがたを知り、そこから未来を考えてみよう。

Text: Ayumi Yakura a 5-minute bus ride from JR Shinrinkoen Station or 15-minute from Subway Shin-Sapporo Station. In the same area, neighboring some facilities such as Centennial Memorial Tower, Historical Village of Hokkaido as an outdoor museum and Nopporo Forest Park Visitors’ Center.
The Main Exhibition Room, where restore systemic skeletons of huge Naumanni and Mammoth meet visitors when entered in immediately, has 3,000 square meters in total 1st and 2nd floor. Under the overall exhibit concepts of “Hokkaido Within Northeast Asia” and “the Relationship Between Nature and People”, it presents information on the nature, history and culture of Hokkaido divided into five themes.
And various exhibition will be held several times in year such as special, subject, collection and close-up exhibitions while presenting unseen materials and works usually. On Weekend and holidays, it holds many events including highlighted tour about which describes all of the attractions of the Main Exhibition Room in a hour, and has the library and cafe in the building.
On the official website, viewers can browse 14,000 general books and magazines as well as illustrated books from 180,000 collections. It’s the time to know the figure of the past and the presence, and then think the future.
