The “cafe gakeno-ue” is sit on the edge of cliff, as the name of cafe “gakeno ue” literally means “on the cliff.” Nestled in the rich natural environment of Jozankei, where is known as a hot spring resort in Sapporoその名の通り、崖の上に建っている「cafe gakeno-ue」（カフェ 崖の上）。札幌の奥座敷として知られる定山渓の自然豊かな環境に位置し、四季を通じて様々な表情を見せる渓谷美を楽しめるカフェだ。
席数は店内に10席と小さいが、夏にはテラス席が開放される。テラス席からは崖の下に流れる川も見え、納涼感があるので、避暑地のプライベートリゾート感覚も味わえる。
実はテラスの一部は崖をはみ出している。安全なのかと不安になるかもしれないが、地質調査を十分に行い、鋼鉄の駆体を用い、建物全体の構造でテラスを支えているため、落ちる危険はないそうだ。
店主の愛山敦子さんは自身が和める場所・空間で、お茶やお酒・料理などを楽しみたいと、この地を選んだという。カフェのメニューも充実しており、自家製のケーキもおすすめ。定山渓や豊平峡を訪れた時はぜひ立ち寄って欲しい場所だ。

Even though it is a small cafe with 10 seatings inside the cafe, they have a terrace space for summer, where you can experience as if visiting a summer resort by view river running under the cliff.
Although a part of the terrace sticks out the cliff, you will be safe for sure as the cafe was built after the geographical investigation, constructed with steel-reinforced framework, and hold the terrace by the structure of the building itself.
The owner, Atsuko Aiyama, selected this location to enjoy herself having drinks and meals in the relaxed place. Among the cafe menu, the hand-made cake is recommended. This cafe is a must-visit place when visiting the Jozankei and Hoheikyo area.
