サッポロビール園Sapporo Beer Garden

The Sapporo Beer Garden is the only place where you can taste all of Hokkaido’s greatest foods at one location. The Genghis Khan Hall in its old glory is a red brick building札幌ガーデンパーク内に「サッポロビール博物館」と併設されている「サッポロビール園」は、元はビート製糖工場として建設された赤煉瓦の建物。100年以上の歴史を積み重ねた工場群は札幌に数少ない歴史的建造物であり、北海道遺産にも指定されている。国の重要文化財の候補にもなったが客の利便性を考え辞退したという逸話がある。
明治の開拓でウィリアムス・スミス・クラークの発案により北海道でのビートの栽培が始まり、1890（明治23）年に製糖工場が建設。建物はドイツのサンガーハウゼン社の基本設計を元に建てられた。その後、製麦工場として使用されていたが、1963（昭和38）年に閉鎖。1966年に改装し、サッポロビール園として生まれ変わった。
館内の高い天井の吹き抜けの中には、1912（大正元）年製造の巨大なケッセル（ビールの仕込み釜）やトロンメル（回転式発芽缶）があり、工場の歴史を感じながら、できたての生ビールやジンギスカンを堪能することができる。
また併設された博物館では、サッポロビールの歴史について詳しく学ぶことができる。
サッポロビール園は地域住民とともに歴史を重ねながら建築物としても魅力を深めている。札幌の中心部から近いので、ビールやジンギスカンを楽しむにも、札幌の歴史を実感するにも気軽に立ち寄れる場所だ。

This profound historical building has an atmosphere that will give you an unique feeling every time you set foot inside. As you enter the building, firewood lines the walls where a large and glowing fireplace stands and the aroma of the beer hall welcomes its guests.
A giant kessel (or cauldron) from the Taisho period reaches toward the high ceiling of the beer hall where you can eat barbequed mutton on hot plates shaped like Hokkaido, and drink down the delicious draft beer.
