Ipanema is more than just the beach that carries its name and the bars that light up the local nightlife. A prominent neighborhood, known to be the birthplace of Bossa Nova, that from the early days has played an important roleイパネマの名前で有名なのはビーチだけではなく、むしろ地元のナイトライフを活気づかせるバーだ。ボサノヴァ発祥の地として知られるこの地域は、早い時期から今日まで、リオの文化シーンの中で重要な役割を果たしてきた。
ホーム・グロウンのような場所がそれを証明してくれる。ビーチから２ブロック離れたところにある居心地の良い小さなアートスペースとバーを兼ね備えるこの隠れた宝石のような場所は、アンダーグラウンド・カルチャーをサポートするという目的のために存在する。アートスペースとしては、街から観客が見に来られるよう毎月様々な若手アーティストの展覧会を開催しており、アーティストたちやアンダーグラウンド・シーンを盛り上げるために活動している。ショップとしては、招待アーティストと大手のブランドとのコラボレーションで作られたユニークな商品と共に、色々な種類の洋服やアート作品が販売されている。
彼らの活動は、社会の喧噪に影響を受けることのない人々にとって、ある意味司令塔にような役割を果たしている。アーティストに会うことができる場所であり、アーティスト同士の出会いの場でもある。このようなインスピレーション溢れる場所では、それぞれのアイディアが合わさり、オリジナルで本格的なコラボレーションプロジェクトへと発展して行く。実際にこれまで多くの素晴らしい作品が生まれてきた。

Places like HomeGrown can attest to that. It is this cozy little art space and store a couple of blocks down from the beach. A hidden gem with a very clear purpose: to support underground culture. As an art space, they hold monthly exhibitions by different emerging artists and serve as a platform pushing to raise them and the underground scene so that it can be experienced by a greater audience throughout the city. As a store, they offer all sorts of gear and prints along with some unique products developed through collaborations between invited artists and big brands.
Their idea is to function as a kind of headquarters, a gathering point for people that are not influenced by the society mass. A place to meet artists and a place where the artists meet. A place to be inspired, to exchange ideas and create the spark for some original and authentic collaborative projects. So far, they have been doing a beautiful job.
Keep an eye on their website not only to check out who will be exhibiting at the gallery but to find out when are the opening nights. Once a month, as they debut a new exhibition, they organize a very informal happy-hour-like event that takes the street of the neighborhood. Grab a beer, meet interesting people and enjoy some art while you are at it.
