Translation: Shiori Saito southeast Portland is now a sophisticated tattoo parlor managed by the artist, Clae Welch, and his wife Melissa. Since its doors opened in 2007, the shop has produced some of the Pacific Northwest’s most supreme custom tattoos.
Every tattoo artist must have the ability to translate and illustrate their customers’ obscure ideas into fully realized tattoos that will be permanently etched into the skin. In order to achieve this, Clae began developing his drawing techniques long before he picked up a tattoo machine. An inventive painter and printmaker, Clae is particularly skilled in finessing his eccentric ideas into robust images that really shine. In short, Clae is an artist who could even make an image of a corndog look like something you would want tattooed on your body forever.
Portland has no shortage of artful tattoo studios, but Historic Tattoo Society defies our perception of typical shops with its combination of fine interior details, exceptional tattoo artists and an inviting atmosphere.
