The alternative space “Pulp” opened in July 2010 just off Orange Street in Osaka’s Horie district, where currently one of the main fashion areas in Kansai region古くは家具屋が多く軒を連ね、現在は関西のファッションの中心の１つでもある大阪堀江に2010年7月にオープンしたオルタナティブスペース 「Pulp」。プレオープン期間の4月から2〜10日前後と短いサイクルで次々と新しいイベント、エキシビジョンを行っており、従来のアートギャラリーでの催しとは違ったアプローチを見せている。
スペースを運営する「Pulp Pictures」は、映像作家・石田悠介氏ら５人から成り、個々が映像制作やキュレーター、PRなどとしても幅広く活動している。『今後は作品展示に関わらず堀江で買い物を楽しむ人がふらっと遊びに立ち寄れるような場所にしていきたい。』と広報の石原氏は話す。
また今後、アートに詳しくない人にも楽しんでもらえるような「Playroom」という一般開放向けの企画も予定されている。堀江の新しい流行発信地として目が離せない。

Text: Akihiko Hamada. “Pulp” has been showing a different attitude to ordinary art galleries by holding new exhibitions and events for just 2 – 10 days, one after another since the April pre-opening term.
“Pulp Pictures” which manages the space, consists of 5 members of whom director Yusuke Ishida is the central figure. Each member is actively working as a PR representative, a curator, a VJ and directors.
Mr.Ishihara who is the PR of Pulp Pictures said “We want Pulp to be a place where people enjoy shopping in Horie, and can pop into either art installation terms or not in here in the future”.
They are having a plan “Playroom” which is making fun for not only art lovers but also for everyone in the near future. We must keep an eye on the this new Horie hot space.
