A photographer Mark Rubenstein was born in Louisville, KY and currently lives in Los Angeles, CA. He has spent the last 6 years developing his multi-part series Common Placeマーク・ルベンステインは、ケンタッキー州ルイビル生まれで、現在ロサンゼルス在住のフォトグラファー。この６年間に渡り、「コモン・プレイス」というシリーズの作品制作に情熱を注いでいる。このシリーズでは壮大な旅に乗り出すような人物像を写し出している。
はじめに自己紹介をお願いします。
17歳の頃から写真を始めました。この６年間は「コモン・プレイス」というシリーズの作品制作をしています。これは奇妙なもうひとつの現実世界で成長している物語で、最新作は「私たちが今ここにいたなら」という日本とロサンゼルスで撮影したシリーズです。
あなたの住む街について教えてください。
ニューヨークから越してきたのですが、ロサンゼルスは本当に素晴らしい街です。毎日自転車で街中に出かけますが、それに勝るものはありません。毎日、毎晩新しい発見があり、様々な文化的な経験ができます。
あなたの街でおすすめの場所を教えてください。
好きな場所は、エコーパークやシルバーレイクのあるエリアです。ここには「エコー・キュリオ」という素晴らしいギャラリー／イベントスペースをはじめ、沢山の行くべき場所があります。タコスなら、「エル・マタドール」、バーは「リトル・ジョイ」や「ゴールド・ルーム」「チャチャ・ラウウンジ」「ビッグフット・ロッジ」「エル・プラド」などがおすすめです。
チャイナタウンには、素晴らしいギャラリーが沢山あります。また、ロスの音楽シーンを知りたいならダウンタウンの「スメル」。多くの優れた地元のミュージシャンがライブを行っています。

Please tell us yourself and your recent activity.
I have been taking pictures since I was 17. For the last six years I have been working on my large scale photo project entitled “Common Place”. It is a multi-part series that tells the story of growing up set in a strange and surreal world. The images featured in the most recent part of the series “we were here now” were shot in Japan and Los Angeles.
Please tell us about your city, and how about living in your city for yourself/activity.
LA is fantastic, I recently moved here after living in New York for many years. Every day I ride my bike through the city and it just cannot get any better. It feels like I am in the middle of a fantastic book. Everyday I see something new, I go out every night and get to experience every type of culture there is.
Please tell us a favourite places in the city you live and work in.
My favorite places to go in the city are the areas of Echo Park and Silver Lake. There are so many great places to go, there is the great gallery/performance space called the “Echo Curio“. Here you can see bands and great art shows. For the best tacos in the city go to the taco truck, “El Matadaor“. It is an adventure in itself ordering there. My favourite places to drink are the bars “Little Joy“, “The Gold Room“, ” Cha Cha Lounge“, “Big Foot Lodge” and “El Prado“, they are all located in the Silver Lake/Echo Park area”. For great art galleries go to China town, there are new ones popping up everyday. For the true LA music experenience go to the music venue “The Smell” located in a hidden alley downtown. Some of the greatest bands to emerge from LA, came out of the smell.

Mark Rubenstein was born in Louisville, KY in 1984. He recieved his B.F.A in photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. He currently lives in Los Angeles, CA.
