Brixton is famous for the diversity and multiculturalism of its occupants; this has been complemented by a recent increase in galleries and vintage clothing stores. However, one location that focuses on cutting edge photographyブリクストンは様々な人が住む多文化な地域として有名だが、最近はギャラリーや古着店が増えている。そんな中、1991年に写真撮影技術や教育や展覧会に焦点を当てたフォトフュージョンと呼ばれるスペースがオープンした。そこはロンドン最大の独立した写真のリソースセンターであり、芸術文化振興会からの資金によってサポートされている。ギャラリーに加え、スタジオや暗室、デジタルルームなどをレンタルできる。
フォトフュージョンは地下鉄の駅近くに位置し、入り口にある何の変哲も無いドアを介して階段を上るとギャラリーとレセプションが併設された空間が現れる。そこには多くの壁と座れるスペースがあり、毎年若手カメラマンに焦点を当てた展覧会が約８回開催されている。展覧会はフォトグラファーの詳細なプロフィールの紹介だけでなく、トークやセミナーなどのイベントも行われている。1200平方フィート（約365m2）で構成されているスペースには、メイクアップルーム、更衣室、リラックスラウンジ、キッチンまで完備されており、どこでも無料のWi-Fiが利用できる。撮影の仕事に必要なものが全て揃っているこのセンターは、教育コースも提供している。柔軟なスケジュールで構成されたこれらのコースには写真の他に、また専門別クラス、クリエイティブクラス、マスタークラスなどのワークショップも用意されている。
会員になると、上記の施設やコースの割引だけでなく、フォトフュージョンをサポートすることができる。センターにはオンラインライブラリーがあり、そこでは約８万枚の画像が購入可能。フォトグラファーはセンターを通して仕事をもらうことも可能だ。

Text: Michael Sullivan techniques, teaching and exhibitions has been in Brixton since 1991 and it is called Photofusion. It is supported by funding from the Arts Council and is London’s largest independent photography resource centre. There is a gallery, and facilities that are available for hire such as a studio, darkrooms, and a digital suite.
Photofusion is located very close to the tube station and entrance is via a quite normal door and up some stairs. Reception is found in the same room as the gallery which is a reasonable large space with plenty of wall space and a couple of seating areas. Every year there are around eight exhibitions with an emphasis on photographers who are just starting their careers. Each exhibition is supported by talks and seminars as well as detailed profile information of the photographer. The studio is comprised of 1200 sq ft of space including access to a make-up area, changing room, lounge / relaxing area and kitchen as well as free wi-fi. The darkrooms and digital suites are well supplied with everything you could possibly want for your photography work, and the centre also offers educational courses. Organised on a rolling schedule these courses include photography and workshops such as skills-based courses, creative workshops, and master-classes.
It is possible to become a member in order to gain discounts for the above facilities and courses, as well as help support Photofusion. The centre also has an online library of over 80,000 images which are also available for sale, and photographers can be hired through the centre.
