京都、吉田山の中腹に位置する吉田山荘は、昭和天皇の義理の弟君、東伏見宮家の別邸として昭和７年に建造された料理旅館。総桧造りで重厚な存在感にあふれ、屋根瓦や襖の把手には、皇室ゆかりNestled in the peace and quiet of Mt. Yoshida, Yoshida-sanso was originally built by master craftsmen to serve as the second residence of one of the Japanese Imperial Familyの「裏菊紋」があしらわれ、格式高さが偲ばれる。書院造りの客室は、部屋ごとに趣の違う照明器具や、古墳時代の銅鏡の背面文様からデザイン化したステンドグラスなど、和と洋が見事に融合された空間となっている。
宿泊はもちろん、四季折々の庭園を眺めながら愉しめる、旬の素材を厳選し調理した懐石料理（昼 12,075円〜／夜 18,112円〜）などの食事のみの利用も可能。ミニ懐石の葉皿料理（昼のみ）は6,930円と9,240円の２種類。
また敷地内には、比叡山・東山連峰（大文字）・街の景色を見渡せる、緑に囲まれたティー＆カフェ「真古館（しんこかん）」(営業時間11:00〜18:00) もある。クラシック音楽を聞きながら、女将デザインによるオリジナルの器で香り高いコーヒーなどが楽しめる。
１階洋間では絵本作家ケイト・グリーナウェイの作品展示を常設している他、コンサート等の季節ごとのイベントなどを開催しするなど、食文化のみならず、古典文化の紹介や音楽、美術等、総合芸術の文化サロンとしての魅力もあるのが吉田山荘だ。
