Kamisoe is a Karakami (paper for sliding doors) shop located in Nishijin Kyoto. Started his own company leaving away from the established Karakami shop, a craftsman Mr. Koh Kado opened in September 2009京都・西陣にある唐紙の店「かみ添」（かみそえ）。京唐紙の老舗から独立した職人・嘉戸浩（かど・こう）氏が現代のライフスタイルのニーズにマッチする新しい唐紙を提案すべく2009年9月にオープンした。
京都の昔ながらの町屋をリノベーションした工房兼ショップの店内では、平安時代は料紙として、江戸時代には襖紙として広く好まれていた唐紙を現代の意匠で蘇らせ、雑貨と共に展示販売を行っている。
唐紙とは木版を用い、手摺りで和紙に文様をのせた装飾紙のこと。かみ添では、これを光陰彩紙（こういんさいし）と呼び、新しいデザイン文様の他、多種の木版を用い、昔から変わらぬ伝統的な印刷技術の手摺りでの制作を行っている。
以前サンフランシスコの大学でグラフィックデザインを学んだという経歴を持つ嘉戸氏のそのデザインは、現代的なミニマルな水玉や、網目、ブレやズレを利用したもの、エスニックな図案などユニークなものばかり。
光陰彩紙は壁紙や壁掛け、ブックカバー、便箋、ポストカードなど、インテリアやステーショナリーをはじめ様々な用途で使用することができる。
部屋の日差しや灯りによって一日の中で美しく表情を変える和紙は、インテリアの素材として近年世界的にも注目を集めている。日本伝統の美を再認識するにも最適なお店だ。日本人には現代和紙の今に注目して欲しい。
かみ添の近辺には大徳寺があり、瑞峯院の重森三玲作の枯山水は必見だ。西陣に来た際はこちらも合わせて訪れて欲しい。

Inside the space for shop and studio utilizing a renovated Machiya building of traditional Kyoto, they showcase and sell their designed Karakami that has been used as Ryoshi (artistic craft paper) in Heian era and Fusumashi in Edo era.
Karakami is the decoration paper which put a pattern on the Japanese paper by a handrail with xylograph. In Kamisoe they call it as Kouinsaishi and make new design patterns and uses various xylograph by handrail of the traditional print technology that has not changed from old days.
WIth his background studied graphic design at college in San Francisco, Mr. Kado creates various designs including modern waterdrops, mesh, blurs and gaps, and ethnic patterns.
Kouinsaishi can be used as various things including wall paper and wall hangings, book cover, letter paper, postcards, for interior and stationery.
Changing its expression beautifully by sunlight and the light in the room, the Japanese paper attracts international attention as a material used for interior design in recent years. It is the most suitable shop to realize the Japanese traditional beauty again. Great place for Japanese people as well to look closely into the modern Japanese paper.
Near Kamizoe, you can find places to visit like Daitoku-ji Temple in the neighborhood. Must visit are Zuihoin and Mirei Shigemori‘s Japanese rock garden, if you visit Nishijin area.
