Located in Pedder building, a home of world’s top galleries, Pearl Lam Galleries’s space is vast that it almost covers entire floor of the building. It welcomes visitors with a glass from floor to the ceiling世界のトップギャラリーが集まるペダービル。パールラムギャラリーの展示スペースはビルのワンフロア分をほぼ埋め尽くす広さである。エントランスでは床から天井までの大きなガラスが来場者を迎え、いくつかのセクションに別れた長方形のスペースに足を踏み込ませる。
1993年にパールラムによって設立されて以来、同ギャラリーは東西の文化交流及び文化を超えた対話を刺激するというミッションをもって、中国のコンテンポラリーアートを展示、推進してきた。上海にもファインアートギャラリーとプロジェクトスペースを開き、アジアマーケットにおいてその活動を広く周知のものとしている。2014年１月にはシンガポールの現代美術の拠点である、ギルマンバラックスにもギャラリースペースをオープンした。
パールラムギャラリーズは国際的なアーティストの展覧会を行うと同時に、中国のコンテンポラリーアートの哲学を再評価し、またそれについての理解をもつ中国のアーティストを擁護し彼らと共に戦ってきた。2013年中に同ギャラリーで単独で展示を行ったアーティストにはジム・ランビー、インカ・ショニバレMBE、ジュウ・ジンシ等らがラインナップされている。またパールラムデザインはアンドレ・ドゥブルーイュ、マーティン・バース、マッティア・ボネッティ、スタジオ・マッキング＆ベイ等、著名なアーティストと新進気鋭のアーティストの双方の展示会も様々企画してきた歴史がある。パールラムデザインはこれらアーティストをレジデンスプログラムとして中国に招待し、新しく作品を制作することをサポートしてきた。彼らのアート作品はその地での体験が反映されたものであり、また伝統的な中国のアート手法と工芸テクニックの垣根を追いやろうとするものと言えるだろう。
2013年、パールラムギャラリーズは初めての試みとして、KIAF 13（第12回韓国国際アートフェア）に参加し、ジェイソン・マーティン、ジム・ランビー、ジュジュ・サン、マイケル・ウィルキンソンらの作品を出品。同ギャラリーは今後も香港上海だけでなくシンガポールや韓国その他アジアの国を精力的に開拓し、アジアのアートシーンでの影響力を強めていくだろう。

Since its foundation in 1993 by Pearl Lam, the gallery has been exhibiting and promoting Chinese contemporary art based on its mission to stimulate cross-cultural dialogue and cultural exchange between East and West. It also has a Fine Art Gallery and special project space in Shanghai, which accelerates its activity to be widely known to Asian market and also opened a major space at Gillman Barracks in Singapore in January 2014.
Pearl Lam Galleries has long been dedicated to championing Chinese artists who reevaluate the philosophy and perception of Chinese contemporary art, while also committed to presenting major exhibitions by international artists. Jim Lambie, Yinka Shonibare MBE, and Zhu Jinshi are among the line-up of artists who have solo exhibitions at the Galleries in 2013. Pearl Lam Design shows works by established and emerging international designers including André Dubreuil, Maarten Baas, Mattia Bonetti, and Studio Makkink & Bey. Pearl Lam Design invited those artists to China as part of its artist-in-residence program to create new bodies of work. The art works are the reflection of their experiences in China, as well as the result of pushing the boundaries of traditional Chinese art and craft techniques.
In 2013, The Pearl Lam Galleries exhibits for the first time at KIAF/13 (The 12th Korea International Art Fair), presenting works by Jason Martin, Jim Lambie, Juju Sun, Michael Wilkinson, etc. It will definitely keep enforcing its power to the art scene in Asia, as it vigorously pioneering the market not only in Hong Kong & Shanghai but also in Singapore, Korea and rest of the region.
