From the outside, Kubrick may just look like a bookstore. In fact, it is an artistic empire, which gathers movies, music, books, coffee and relaxation together外からみればただの書店のよう。だが一歩足を踏み入れればそこはアートの王国。映画や音楽や書籍が集まり、コーヒーで一息つくこともできる。映画ファン、愛書家、芸術活動家なら誰もが愛する店だ。
2001年にオープンしたキューブリックは、ヤウマテイ（油麻地）のテンプルストリート（廟街）で喧噪に潜む秘密の楽園だ。映画館「ブロードウェイ・シネマテーク（百老匯電影中心）」に隣接するこの店は香港で最高の書店のひとつとして知られ、中心から離れた立地にかかわらず訪れる人は後を絶たない。
アートやライフスタイル、映画や詩などに関するレアな本の数々が心地よい店内にぎっしりと並ぶ。書籍の他に地元アーティストの色々なアイテムもあり目を楽しませてくれる。そしてもう片側は素敵な喫茶コーナー「キューブリック・カフェ」となっており、本を読みながら本格コーヒーを楽しんでのんびりすることができる。書店とカフェのふたつの顔がこの空間に最高のハーモニーをもたらしているのだ。
キューブリックはサイン会、ポエトリーリーディング、ワークショップやライブ等さまざまなイベントも行っている。2007年夏には初となる「キューブリック・フライデー・ライブ」が開かれ、書店の中で国内外のミュージシャンがコラボレーションを行った。また地元の作家や映画監督によるワークショップも随時行われている。同じ趣味を持つ人々がここで出会い、その輪を広げていくのだ。
隣接の映画館の中には「キューブリック・ディスク」というショップを持つ。香港で他にはない、ユニークな音楽や映画グッズの店だ。厳選された最高のアート映画のDVDやサウンドトラック、ポスター、世界中から集めたインディーズ音楽のCDなどを扱っている。映画ファンにはたまらない空間だ。
ヤウマティの他に、クントン（觀塘）のAPMの中にも小さな店がある。ここはヤウマティの店とはひと味違い、よりセレクトショップとしての色合いが強い。グラフィックエアラインズやデイドリーム・ネイション、Bウイングといった国内外のアーティストによるハンドメイドのアイテムが多数取り扱われている。

Translation: Shiori Saito. It is the favourite place for all the movie buffs, bookworms and culture activists in the city.
Kubrick-bc has been a hidden treasure behind the busy Temple Street in Yau Ma Tei since 2001. Residing next to Broadway Cinematheque, Kubrick is well known as one of the best film bookstores in town. Even though it is at a secluded location, it doesn’t stop people from coming. There are many rare books and magazines relating to art, lifestyle, film and poetry to be found in this relaxing book area. Besides selling books and magazines, products from local artists are also featured in the shop as another attraction. As one side of Kubrick is a bookstore, the other side is a lovely coffee area named Kubrick café, where you can read the book and be chill out with a cup of Fair Trade coffee. The bookstore and the café create the best harmony in the space.
Kubrick constantly organizes different programmes inside the bookstore, such as book signing, poetry gathering, workshop and live music performances. In the summer of 2007, Kubrick had their first “Kubrick Friday Live”, which is a music programme that collaborates with local and foreign musicians inside the bookstore. On top of that, workshops with local writers and filmmakers often take place in here. This cultural meeting spot brings together the people that have the same interest and the circle is rapidly expanding.
Inside the Cinematheque, Kubrick continues their evolution with the Kubrick Disc in the cinema; a one-of-a-kind disc store and movie memorabilia shop that you’ll be hard pressed to find elsewhere in Hong Kong. They select the best art film DVDs, soundtracks, movie posters and indie music CDs from all over the world. It provides an excellent hangout for the movie lovers.
Besides Yau Ma Tei, Kubrick has a small shop in Kwun Tong APM. Compared to the Kubrick in Yau Me Tei, the Kwun Tong store shifts focus from a café bookstore to that of a more selective specialist store with a lot of hand-made accessories from local and foreign artists, such as Graphicairlines, Daydream Nation, B Wing and etc.
