Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, the world-renowned architects of the Burj Khalifa, added another world record to their portfolio – the world’s tallest twisted tower世界一高いビル、ドバイのブルジュ・ハリファで知られる建築設計事務所スキッドモア・オーウィングス・アンド・メリルが世界記録となる建物を彼らの作品にまた一つ加えた…世界一高いねじれタワー。
セイヤンタワーは2013年6月にオープンし、現在は有名な名所となっている。ドバイマリーナの賑わいをみせるヨットハーバーに位置し、75階建のビルが310mの高さまで完全に90度ねじれた構造となっている。
このタワーには更に、ちょっと“ひねった” エコな工夫が施されている。入り江では、気温が30度以上にもなる暑い夏の冷却費用が跳ね上がり、ときにはそれが半年以上続くこともある。
湾曲したタワーの外壁は金属の合板パネルが装備され、高機能ガラスと凹みガラスのラインに沿った深い窓枠が、窓から見える海の風景を台無しにすることなく、太陽の熱から保護している。
タワーのらせん型は、日中屋内に入る砂や塵を遮断しながらも、夜には自然冷却システムとして窓を使用できるよう設計されている。
住居ビルのため、ビル内部は物件の所有者と賃貸契約者のみに公開されている。200万ディルハム（約6000万円）のシングルルームから350万ディルハムのツインルームまで、マンションは全て発売前に完売だ。
こんな大金を支払う余裕がなくても、この風変わりなビルを外からの眺めならば無料で楽しむことができる。日中の最高のビューポイントは、対岸にあるマリーナプロムナードだ。近くにあるドバイアリーナのマリオットホテルのバー、オブザーバトリーでは、日没から夜までのハッピーアワーもおすすめだ。高層ビルとペルシャ湾の美しい夜景が見られること間違いなし。
2016年の1月にはレゾンデートルのリブノルディックスパ＆ウェルネスが６階にオープンしたというのも良いニュースだ。施術の予約をすればセイヤンタワーの内部を見ることもできる。

The Cayan Tower opened in June 2013 and is now a recognisable landmark. Located by the busy yacht bay of the Dubai Marina, the 75-floor building twists through a full 90 degrees at a height of 310 metres.
With temperatures over 30 degrees Celsius sometimes for longer than half a year, cooling bills and expenses soar during the hot summer in the Gulf. To help keep the electricity costs lower, the tower’s design has another- ecological – twist.
The curved exterior walls of the Cayan Tower are equipped with metal cladding panels, high-performance glass and deep sills around the recessed glass line to give protection from the sun’s heat without obscuring views of the sea.
The tower’s helical form is designed to use wind as a natural cooling system at night, whilst also blocking sand and dust from entering the interior during the day.
As it is a residential building, the interior is open only for property owners and tenants. Apartments sold before the launch of the building ranged from Dh2 million (approx. 60 million yen) for a one bedroom to Dh3.5 million for a two bedroom.
Even if you are not ready to pay such an amount, you can still enjoy the exterior for free. The best view of this quirky architecture during the day is from the other side of the bay on the Marina promenade. From sunset to night, catch the happy hour deal at the Observatory in the neighbouring building of the Marriott hotel, Dubai Marina. It can guarantee you a beautiful night view of the building and the bay.
Good news for those who want a peek of the inside of the Cayan Tower. Since late January 2016, LivNordic Spa and Wellness by Raison d’Etre has just opened on the 6th floor. By making an appointment at the spa, together with treatment the Cayan interior is sure to be a delightful experience.
