Although you’ll recognize global coffee giants like Costa and Starbucks on almost every street corner in Dubai, the most popular independent Emirati café restaurant Shakespeare and Co大手チェーンのコスタコーヒーやスターバックスなどもドバイの街角のいたるところにあるが、地元ドバイ発祥のカフェレストランチェーン「シェイクスピア and Co.」もまた人気スポット各地に店を構える。現在は大人気のカフェとして世界にまたがり、ドバイの13店舗を含む26店舗を展開している。どこの店も一日中いつでもお客でいっぱいだ。
この店の可愛らしいインテリアデザインコンセプトは、18世紀のヨーロッパ。それぞれのレストランは独自のデザインチームによってデザイン、設計、装飾が行われており、家具や備品は全て自社の工房で手作りされている。各店舗のインテリアはどれもユニークなので、街じゅうのシェークスピアカフェを見て回る価値あり。カラフルなドールハウスのような雰囲気のカフェは不思議とリラックスした居心地の良さを感じさせてくれる。
朝７時から夜12時まで営業時間を通して、様々な人がこの店を利用する。朝には卵料理の特別メニューを楽しむ早起きの人たち、日中は子供のプレイルーム完備のアラビアンランチズ店（写真）で、お茶を飲みながらリラックスするドバイのママたち、ビレッジモール店やアルサクルビジネスタワー店のナイトタイムは地元の若者たちが集う人気の場所なのだ。
レバノンサージ（味付の平たいパン）やシーシャ（水タバコ）、ゆったり座ってバックギャモンのゲームを楽しむには最適な場所だ。ドバイマリーナ店は特に、シーシャを吹かしながら夜のドバイマリーナのまばゆい夜景を楽しみたい旅行者におすすめ。

Their kitsch interior design concept is inspired by 18th century Europe. Each restaurant is conceived, designed and decorated by their in-house design team where every piece of furniture and fixture is handcrafted in their very own workshops. The setting of each branch is unique, so it’s worthwhile seeing as many of the Shakespeare and Co. cafes across the city as you can. The multi-coloured dollhouse-like atmosphere somehow makes you feel very relaxed and cosy.
Throughout the opening hours of 7am-12am, you’ll find people of all different kinds. In the morning, you’ll find early birds appreciating the breakfast egg specialities. During the day time in the Arabian Ranches branch (photo), which is equipped with a kid’s play room, you’ll find many Dubai mothers relaxing with a cup of tea. After dark at the Village Mall or Al Saqr Business Tower branches, it’s a popular gathering place for young Emiratis.
It’s a perfect place to grab a Lebanese saj (flavoured flat bread) and Shisha, sit back and enjoy a game of backgammon. The Dubai Marina branch in particular, is recommended for tourists who are looking forward to enjoy the bright lights of the Dubai Marina at night while puffing on a shisha.
