The GL Strand is located in a gorgeous building along the strand in the centre of Copenhagen; this beautiful area is popular with tourists for its canal, brightly coloured houses and also its museums and palaces. The GL strand was founded in 1825 by professor Eckersberg GLストランドは、コペンハーゲンの中心部に位置する大きな通り沿いの美しい建物にある。この美しいエリアには、運河、美術館、宮殿、鮮やかな色彩の建物などを求めて多くの観光客が訪れる。GLストランドは、1825年に教授でありアーティストでもあったエカースベルが、アートを人々のより身近なものにしたいと立ち上げたギャラリー。創設以来、その関心は新しいアートと若手アーティストの支援にある。この素晴らしい施設は、この目的のため長年実力のあるアーティストたちの展覧会を行い、高い評判を得てきた。改装オープンした2010年夏には、デンマーク皇太子もGLストランドのパトロンに加わった。この会場は恒久的なこれコレクションを持たず、展覧会のキュレーションの柔軟性と自由度を大切にしている。
この地域では特別に作られた運河が水を迂回させ、街をいくつかに隔てている。川のようにも見えるが、実際には海によって分断された素敵な街コペンハーゲン中心部のガメルストランド通り。この通りは、運河と通り沿いに並ぶ独特の建物が特徴で、トーヴァルセン美術館やクリスチャンスボー城から近いことでも知られており、ストーム、シュティルレーベンなどの人気のショップからも程近い。
GLストランドの受付のエリアには本やカフェスペースがあり、他のいくつかの階には展示スペースとなっている。それぞれの階を使っていくつかの展覧会を同時に行うことも可能だ。美しく飾られたそれぞれの階をめぐるのはまるで冒険のよう。少なくとも年に５回以上の展覧会が開催され、これまでヘンリック・ヴィブスコフ、デヴィッド・リンチや、斬新な作品を発表するヤン・フードンなど才能あふれるアーティストを取り上げている。展示アーティストの決定には、現代的な側面を持つアート作品を扱う場合と、デンマークの現代的なトレンドを反映したアーティストや国際的なアートシーンを反映したアーティストを扱う場合の２つのキュレーション方針が柱となっている。
GLストランドは、豊富な展示スペースと、アートの愛好家のニーズに応えるカフェなどの趣のある設備を持った美しい施設。もしコペンハーゲンで訪れる場所はたった１か所しか選べないとしたら、迷わずここをおすすめする。

Translation: Satsuki Miyanishi , an artist who wanted to develop a link between the public and art. Since its inception its focus has been on new art and the support of young artists. For this purpose this wonderful institution can rely on its well earned reputation which has been formed by the exhibitions of great artists over many years. The Crown Prince of Denmark is a patron of the GL Strand, in addition in late summer 2010 it reopened after being refurbished. As this venue does not maintain a permanent collection it has a great deal of flexibility and freedom in curating its exhibitions.
As stated it is in the Gammel Strand in the centre of Copenhagen, in fact this amazing city is divided by the sea, although in appearance it looks like a river, and a number of specially made canals divert the water into different parts of the city. The Gammel Strand is one such canal and is characterized by the distinctive buildings that can be found along it, it is also well known for the nearby Thorvaldsens Museum and the Christiansborg Palace. Not far away you can also find streets popular for shopping with shops like Storm and Stilleben.
In the reception area you can find books and a café area while the exhibition space can be found over several floors, this means that more than one exhibition can be held at the same time. All of the floors are beautifully decorated and exploring each floor can seem like a great adventure. There are at least five major exhibitions every year, the amazing artists who have exhibited here include big talents like Henrik Vibskov and David Lynch, while breakthrough artists like Yang Fudong have also exhibited here. When deciding on an artist for exhibitions two main curatorial strategies are used, for example modern art with relevant contemporary aspects, or artists who reflect contemporary trends in the Danish and also international art scene.
The GL Strand is a beautiful venue in a beautiful area, the way it is laid out with plenty of exhibition space as well as facilities like a café are very tasteful and cater exactly to the needs of today’s art enthusiasts. If it was a case of choosing just one place in the whole of Copenhagen that needs to be seen it would definitely be this fascinating venue.
