Christian Andersen Gallery opened in 2010 and is amongst a number of new galleries that have opened in the Meat District of Copenhagen, Kodbyen2010年にオープンしたクリスチャン・アンデルセン・ギャラリーは、近年多くのギャラリーがオープンしているコペンハーゲンのミートパッキング地区に位置している。1883年からこの敷地の大部分は、食肉産業地区として指定され、1880年代から1930年代にかけて多くの建物が建設された。長年「肉の街」とされてきたこの地域は、食肉関連の企業も残る中、近年ではデザイン会社やバーなどが立ち並ぶエリアへと変化してきた。
1934年に建てられた白い建物が特徴的なこのギャラリーのディレクターは、以前にコペンハーゲンにあるギャラリー・マイケル・アンデルセンで働いていたクリスチャン・アンデルセンだ。ギャラリーで扱う作品は、主に若い作家や、デンマークの作家によるコンセプチュアル・アートを中心とした作品で、絵画、彫刻などジャンルは様々。
ミートパッキング地区に隣接して美しいヘルムトルベット通りがあり、そこからギャラリーの白い建物へと続くホカボドルネ通りを見つけることができる。隣には人気のバーが店を構えているので、ギャラリーを見つけるのも容易だ。建物の大きな窓からは自然光が差し込む6㎡程の小さなスペースがあり、他の多くのギャラリーとは対照的にそこに展示されるアートを作品が美しく照らし出す。大きな展示室はしきり壁によって、２つの展示室があるかのような錯覚を起こさせ、多くの作品展示に活かしている。
約４～５週間ごとに行われる展覧会は、これまでアンダース・クラウセン、マリー・ルンド、モルテン・ソクロデー・ルンドなどの展覧会が開催されてきた。ギャラリーは国際的な展覧会への参加にも積極的であり、ドイツ、アメリカ、イギリスなどのアートフェアにも参加しており、ウェブサイトではギャラリーで紹介されたアーティストの海外での展覧会情報も掲載されている。
コペンハーゲン中央駅からも近く、面白いショップや多くの興味深いギャラリーが集まる地区に位置するこのギャラリー周辺は、散歩するにもとても綺麗な場所。質の高い現代アートを展示するクリスチャン·アンデルセン・ギャラリーは見逃せない場所の一つだ。

Text: Mike Sullivan. In 1883 this part of Copenhagen became earmarked for the meat industry, many of the buildings date back to the 1880s and the 1930s, and although many meat companies are still based in this area it has recently been opened up to more designer companies as well as bars.
Christian Andersen Gallery is located amongst the white buildings which date to 1934 and the director, Christian Andersen, previously worked at the Gallery Mikael Andersen which is also in Copenhagen. A range of media is displayed here from paintings to sculptures with a focus on conceptual ideas by young international and Danish artists.
Adjacent to the Kodbyen district there is a beautiful street called Halmtorvet and from here you can find Hokerboderne street which leads into the white buildings. It is easy to find this gallery as it is right next to a popular bar. It has large windows and the inside is a well-lit pure white space of 62 square feet, in contrast to many galleries the lighting actually faces the wall which helps bring attention to the art that is displayed there. Although it is one big space there is a dividing wall which helps create the illusion of there being two rooms, and also allows more art to be exhibited.
The exhibitions change every four to five weeks, previous artists who have exhibited include, but are not limited to, Anders Clausen, Marie Lund and Morten Skroder Lund. The gallery is also involved in art fairs abroad such as in Germany, USA and the UK, and also the website lists other exhibitions around the world by artists who have previously exhibited at the Christian Andersen Gallery.
It is in a location not far from Copenhagen Central Station in a district full of interesting shops as well as other galleries and is a nice area for just walking around. However, with superb galleries like this one exhibiting truly great contemporary art this is one place that shouldn’t be missed.
