国立セルバンテス劇場Cervantes National Theatre
The area surrounding 9 de Julio Avenue is typically elegant and unique. In the corner of Libertad Street and Córdoba Avenue the Cervantes Theatre can be seenリベルタドール通りとコルドバ大通りの角に建つ「国立セルバンテス劇場」。その目を引く美しいスペイン様式の建物は1921年、女優マリア・ゲレーロとその夫フェルナンド・ディアスが私財を投入し、さらには当時のスペイン王アルフォンソXIII世や地元上流階級の人々までもが協力して築き上げられたが、やがて財政難により維持が難しくなり国の手へと渡った、という歴史を持つ。
現在は演劇だけに留まらず、コメディーやコンサート、子供劇まで幅広く上演されている。
劇場内には3つの部屋があり、そのうちメインのオーディトリウムは設立者マリア・ゲレーロの名が冠されており、細部にまでこだわりが表現された優雅なイタリア様式の室内には860人を収容できる。また、アルゼンチン人俳優であったオレステス・カヴィリアの名が付けられた部屋は150人、その金の装飾が有名であり、ウルグアイ生まれの女優ルイーザ・ヴェヒルの名を持つ部屋は120人を収容できる。
コルドバ大通りを歩けば、やがて見えてくるこの劇場の建物の美しさに思わず魅了されるに違いない。

Translation: Yuki Mine, an Argentinean National Theatre in an impressive Spanish style building, a 1921 donation from the Counts of Brazalote, who had to give up all their properties in order to pay for the building work. At the zenith of the Porteño cultural activity, this theatre has an official list of events, international guests, special performances for schools, shows planned together with the Asociación Amigos del Teatro Cervantes (Friends of Cervantes Theatre Association), private events, forums, courses, workshops and seminars run by renowned dramatists both Argentinean and from abroad.
The Theatre has three performance spaces for its shows: The main auditorium, the “María Guerrero”, of typical Italian design provides room for 860 spectators distributed between the stalls, the first-tier boxes the balcony and stage boxes, the dress circle, the upper gallery and the gods. The elegance of the venue can be seen in the yellow curtains, the bronze candelabra and the period mirrors and coat stands that serve as decoration.
The Orestes Caviglia Venue, which began as the theatre bar and cafeteria, has a capacity of 150.
Finally, the Luisa Vehil Venue has a capacity of 120. It is known as the Golden Hall for its decoration with a gilded finish.
Within the range of shows that can be enjoyed at the Cervantes Theatre there are dramatic theatre plays with first-rate actors and directors, chamber orchestra shows and symphonic concerts as well as some shows for children.
Do not miss one of the main sights of the city of Buenos Aires. You will be surprised as soon as you walk along Córdoba Avenue and spot the impressive architecture of the complex.
