Although in Europe the custom of using bicycles as a means of transport has become legitimized several years ago, in Buenos Aires this is a new phenomenon. In a city where there are too many carsヨーロッパでは輸送手段として自転車を利用する習慣があり、数年前に合法化されたが、アルゼンチンの首都ブエノスアイレスにおいての自転車の普及は近年始まった新しい現象だ。ブエノスアイレスは車の交通量が多く、迂回する道も複雑だ。しかし自転車の利用が、それらの交通と環境の問題を解決する大きな要因となっている。
モノクロームは一人一人のオリジナルの自転車を制作するというプロジェクトで、都市の交通の混雑の軽減に一役買っているだけではなく、素材の再利用も積極的に行っている。「新品」の自転車の組み立てにはすべて再利用品が使われる。フレーム（車体部）や独自のデザインを施したステンレス製のハンドル、手作りの革のシートなどが売られている。モノクロームでは自転車乗りたちが乗り終えた自転車をリサイクルすることで、新しい自転車へと受け継がれ、作り替えることができるのだ。
リワインド・バイクスは2011年より開始されたモノクロームのセカンドラインであり、モノクロームの精神を持ちつつも一味違ったデザインとなっている。利用者は、自転車の設計や色、小物の組み合わせなど、全てを自由に決めることができる。
モノクロームは、いったん価値の下がってしまった良質の素材や職人のすぐれた技術などにもう一度光を当てることを目指している。パレルモにあるモノクロームの店舗では、あちこちで職人の技術の素晴らしさを発見することができ楽しい一時を過ごすことができるだろう。また、モノクロームのウェブサイトでも自転車を注文する際には様々なオプションの解説を鮮明な画像付きで見ることができる。

The Monochrome project is committed with this new movement by creating unique bicycles which not only ease congestion in the city streets, but also reuse materials. The assembly of the new bikes involves the use of recycled frames, own design pieces such as stainless steel handlebars and leather handmade seats and pieces that already exist in the market. Each cyclist may take their bicycle and turn it into a Monochrome obtaining a new bicycle with the spirit of their old bike.
Rewind Bikes is the second line of Moochrome, born in 2011, sharing the same DNA of Monochrome bikes but with a twist. It is the owner who decides on the design, the model, the colour combinations and the accessories.
Monochrome seeks to use the lost values of the industry, such as the quality of the materials and the fine craftsmen’s work.
