The Andes Mountains run like a huge and eternal curtain almost beyond sight. From Mendoza you can overlook the Andes lined along the border of Argentina and Chile視界からあふれ出すほど長いアンデス山脈がカーテンのように続いている。アルゼンチンとチリの境界に沿って連なるアンデス山脈を見渡し、アメリカ大陸最高峰のアコンカグア山（6,960ｍ）を観覧できる町、メンドーサ。
ラテンアメリカの英雄、サンマルティン将軍がチリ独立を実現させるために5,000人もの軍を率いてメンドーサから馬でアンデス越えをしたことでも有名。市内には歴史博物館、サンマルティンの勝利を称えたサンマルティン公園などがある。
もう一つの魅力は自然。市内からのバスツアーで山内に入り、高々と聳（そび）えるアンデス山脈の自然を肌で実感できる。何連にも連なる山なりは様々な色を見せる。頂上に積もる雪の白、時代を刻む剥き出しの岩の赤や紫、黄色、そして草原の緑。目を飽きさせることのない風景が続く。冬はスキーレジャーでにぎわう。夏でもチリとの国境地点である山頂では気温もぐっと下がる。
メンドーサまではブエノスアイレスから国内線の飛行機で１時間か、バスで13時間。山を越えてチリまでのアクセスも容易だ。

Mendoza has a very important history. The most famous Latin-American hero, General San Martin and his 5,000 strong army left Mendoza and crossed the Andes on horseback to go on and lead the liberation of Chile. You can visit some of San Martin’s memorials in the city such as a history museum and San Martin Park.
Another attraction in Mendoza is the nature. By tour bus, you can access the Andes Mountains, where you get a real feeling of the scenic beauty. The Andes never stop surprising you with a variety of colors: the white of snowcaps, red, purple and yellow of canyon rocks, green of grasslands and more. Those landscapes never tire your eyes. Winter is bustling with skiing. At the summit of the border with Chile, be careful with the temperatures, which are quite low even in summer.
Mendoza is 13 hours by bus or up to one hour by plane from Buenos Aires. It is also easy access to Chile over the mountains.
