Eterna Cadencia is such a dreamlike bookstore. Located on a tree-lined street in Palermo district, it always welcomes book-lovers to stay for hours. From the main entranceまるで物語の中に出てくる夢のような本屋がここ、エテルナ・カンデシア。パレルモ地区の並木通りにあるこの本屋は一度足を踏み入れたら何時間でも居座ってしまうような読書好きを迎え入れる暖かさがある。入り口のあるメインスペースから真っ直ぐ伸びる廊下を進むと、奥まで何連にも部屋が続いていて、まるで本の迷宮のよう。壁自体が重厚な木製の本棚になっていて天井まで本で埋まっている。上のほうにある本ははしごに登って取る仕組みである。本はセクションごとに分けられていて、セクションを示す銀のプレートなど、ディテールまで魅力的。
書店としてだけではなく、出版も行う。まず陳列された本の表紙のセンスのいいことにも驚かされるだろう。書店スペースに隣接しているのは、屋根が吹き抜けになっているカフェバー・スペース。入り口を入って正面奥にレトロで味わいのあるこちらもまた木製の愛らしいカウンターがある。ここで読書にふけるのもよし、夕暮れにアペリティフを楽しむのもよし。作家を招待したセミナーもここで行われる。アットホームな雰囲気で行われるイベントも自然と参加型で同じ嗜好を共有できる人々の集まりとなる。是非散歩コースの一つとして大切にしたくなるような街角の本屋だ。

Text: Mami Goda, a long corridor extends, leading past room after room. It seems almost like a book labyrinth. All the walls are filled with books, because the walls themselves are massive wooden bookshelves. To take a book from the top, you have to climb a ladder. The books are categorized into different genres which are indicated on a silver plate in each section.
Eterna Cadencia is also a publisher. It’s really interesting to look at each displayed book, particularly the cover, where you can recognize their very elegant and nice sense of aesthetic. The café-bar area lies in an atrium adjacent to the bookshop. From the front entrance to the back, there is a retro feeling, and there is also a lovely wooden counter. It is nice to stay reading, but also relaxing with an aperitif in the evening. Seminars and chat events with writers are held here as well. The atmosphere is always familiar; it’s a place for people who want to share moments around books. This cherished, cosy bookstore is a favourite address of their daily walk.
