If there is a place full of history and beauty in Buenos Aires, it is Las Violetas coffee and pastry store. On the corner Rivadavia and Medrano, a coffee house with golden chandelliers and Italian marble was on September 21st 1884ブエノスアイレスで、歴史ある美しい場所を訪れたいなら、ラス・ビオレタスがおすすめ。店内には金のシャンデリアが輝き、イタリア製の大理石が使われている。観光地から少し外れたアルマグロ地区にあるカフェとスイーツのお店だ。食事もでき、セットメニューには、肉料理とパスタ、スイーツとコーヒーが付く。
開店は1884年と古く、そのオープニングセレモニーには、後の大統領となるカルロス・ペレグニーニと、彼の著名な友人達や、政治家、芸術家、さらにロベルト・アルトなどの作家が、ラス・ビオレタスに集い、丸テーブルを囲んだ。今日の建物の形が出来上がったのは、1920年のことである。
ラス・ビオレタスは完ぺきなまでに美しい。建物の構造から細部に至るまで、当時のままの形を維持し続けてきた。修復した箇所は少なくはないものの、このお店が本来持つ特徴は変わっていない。高い天井、細かな装飾が施されたブロンズの柱、ステンドグラス、大理石のテーブルにシャンデリア。
店内には、ここを訪れる観光客の姿に交じり、アルゼンチン人の姿がある。奥のリバダビア通り側のテーブルで、この国らしく、何時間も物思いにふけっている様子だ。素晴らしい内装とこの雰囲気が、独特の魅力を生み出している。神秘的なアルマグロ地区で、アルゼンチン人の精神を守り続ける。ラス・ビオレタスは、そんな魅力的な場所である。

Even secretary Carlos Pellegrini, future Argentine President at the time, was present on the opening, arriving in a special streetcar and accompanied by many of his distinguished friends. Politicians, artists and writers of those times, like Roberto Arlt, would take it as their meeting point, they would seat round the tables of this coffee house. But it was not until the 1920’s that the current building was made.
Nowadays Las Violetas looks spotless. Time is only noticed in the good taste of having maintained the original structure and details of its architecture. Although several things have had to be repaired, the spirit of the original store has remained: high ceilings, columns with details made of bronze, stained glass windows, marble tables and chandeliers that make up the atmosphere of this store.
In addition to its charming interior decoration, the atmosphere in this place has a unique charm, with curious tourists willing to visit the store blending in with Argentine characters who already have the habit of spending hours contemplating Rivadavia Ave from one of the tables.
It is possible to enjoy a full meal – the menu includes a variety of meat and pasta – or a cup of coffee or tea with pastries, while contemplating the mysterious Almagro neighbourhood, an area outside the tourist district, but still faithful to the true Argentine spirit.
