De Balie is a place with a lot of history and a lot of present. Since 1982, it has been located in an astonishing building, from the end of the nineteenth centuryデ・バリは、歴史的なものと現代的なものが共存する場所。1982年に建てられたこの印象的な建物は、19世紀の終わりころにアムステルダムでも最も美しい地域の一つライツェ広場の地方裁判所として使用されていた。建物の正面は２色のレンガでできたオランダの典型的な建築様式で、こういった様式は街のいたるところで見ることができる。
コンサート、ディベート、トークショー、演劇、映画と展覧会などがこの会場で行われており、洗練された雰囲気のグラン・カフェではコーヒーやランチも楽しめる。高い天井と広々としたスペースに通りを見渡せる大きな窓があり、現代アートやデザインランプもセンス良く配置されている。
そのきれいな自然のためにこの街でもっとも美しいとも言われる運河が近くにあるので、デ・バリへ訪れる際にはぜひこの周辺を観光してみることをお勧めする。

Translation: Satsuki Miyanishi , in which the previous District Court used to be, at Leidseplein, one of the most beautiful areas of Amsterdam. The architecture here is typically Dutch: a big facade made out of bricks of two different colors and those beautiful domes that can be seen many times around the city.
Concerts, public debates, talk shows, theatre, cinema and exhibitions take place here and it is also possible to have a coffee or lunch at the elegant Grand Cafe, a very spacious area with high ceilings, huge windows looking to the street, some contemporary art and design lamps.
It is a perfect plan to combine your visit to De Balie with a tour around the area, since it is located really close to the canals, one of the most attractive parts of the city because of its natural beauty.
It is possible to check the program in advance -through their website- to take full advantage but you can also just drop by and let yourself be surprised by the marvelous ornamented rooms, -high ceilings, antique chandelier lamps, and vintage style furniture- and prove by yourself that there is always something going on.
The program of activities is hectic. At De Balie you will not only see art, they have a really strong political commitment so thus the program includes events related to different themes such as politics, society, media and cinema. There are always art exhibitions on view, mostly of contemporary local artist. During weekends you will probably have the chance to attend to De Balie to dance or have drinks at their regular night parties, while during the week events such as lectures, cinema, theatre, etc. happen.
