ベルリンミッテ地区の北側にある住宅街の道沿いに、真っ白く光かっている一角が見える。そこに行くと日本のキオスクとは違う、ちょっと特殊なキオスクが建っている。The Berlin based German artist H. N. Semjon combines with his “KioskShop berlin” the retail world with the art world in a unique way at the new gallery district Mitte-Nord at the center of Berlin. Since the opening in autumn 2001 about 5.000 people have seen the installation site.
The permanent installation simulates on one hand a Berlin typical neighborhood store and on the other hand it plays with the perception of product world and its distribution.
One day more than 2.000 “Product Sculptures” will be on view at KioskShop berlin (KSb). They are everyday goods being encapsulated in bleached beeswax: Kellogg’s Cornflakes cartons, Ariel detergent packages, Coca Cola cans, newspapers and magazine, candies and much more. Like in a real store they are installed in specifically designed and built store fixtures: The painterly white “Product Sculptures”, the minimaland white design of the fixtures and the very bright light create adistance and transcend the common known store atmosphere into anotherdimension of perception and recognition.
The art installation is designed as a work in progress. Like in acommon store it will be complished with new ›products‹ which one alsomay purchase.

2001年の10月にオープンしたこのショップは、置かれているのは確かにどこにでもあるような日常製品だが、すべて不透明な白い物体にコーティングされていていて、実はキオスク・ショップ、ベルリン滞在のアーティスト、H.N.ゼムヨンによるパーマネント・インスタレーションなのだ。
今までに1000以上の「プロダクト・スカルプチャー」を置き、ほかのギャラリーのようにスポンサーを探さず、これらの「商品」の売上を通して営業をするというのが彼のコンセプトの一部。そのために生み出されたシステムがいわゆる「分割払い」。 20ヶ月間まで支払いの引き延ばしを可能にすることによって、若い人や初心者も手が伸ばせるアートになるという。現在の時点で25名ほどこのシステムに参加しており、商品が買われていくとともにショップの品揃えも変化していく。
どこにでもある近所のキオスク、人は毎日のようにそこで新聞や必需品を買い、店主と会話を交わし、情報を交換する。そのあたりまえさに慣れきってしまっている私達を混乱させ、ありふれた環境を考えさせ直させる状況を作りたい、とH.N.ゼムヨンは説明している。
