In 1929 the Finnish Painters’ Union was founded to promote visual arts as well as the professional and social interests of Finnish artists nationwide. In conjunction with this the TM Galleria is located on the same premisesフィンランド・ペインターズ・ユニオンはビジュアルアートとアーティストをフィンランドで広める目的で1929年に設立された。組合メンバーのアートを展示するため、敷地内に立てられたのがTMガレリアである。展覧会では主に若手のアーティストに焦点が当てられており、毎年３月には所属メンバー数百人の作品が販売されるイベントが行われる。
TMギャラリーの隣にはデザインフォーラム・フィンランドがあり、他のたくさんのアート関係の団体と同様に、ヘルシンキ都心に近い、アート、デザインショップが集まるデザイン地区に位置している。ギャラリーの大きな窓はデザインフォーラム・フィンランドの入り口に面しており、中には作品の展示のための広い空間がある。また白い大きな壁はあらゆる大きさの作品を、様々な角度から見せてくれる。
展覧会は約３週間ずつ行われ、委員会が応募アーティストの中から展覧会のアーティストを選出する。作品の購入の際にはフィンランド・ペインターズ・ユニオンからアドバイスを受けることができる。親切な組合メンバーは特別な制作スタイルのアーティストや肖像画のアーティスト等、様々な情報を与えてくれる。
ヘルシンキのデザイン地区にはたくさん店やギャラリーがあり、どこを訪れるか選ぶのは難しい。しかし、ビジュアルアートに興味を持っている人には特にTMギャラリーへぜひ足を運んで頂くことをお薦めする。

Text: Mike Sullivan in order to showcase the art from members of the union. The exhibitions are focused in particular on new Finnish painting while every March the union organises a large sales event with works of art from hundreds of members being available for sale.
The Union and gallery are next door to Design Forum Finland, and like many art related organisations it is located close to the centre of Helsinki in the Design District, which is well known for its art and design shops. The Galleria itself is notable for its large windows facing one of the entrances for the Design Forum Finland, and once you step inside you will find yourself in a large space which is eminently suitable for presenting paintings, etc. The large white walls allow paintings of all sizes to be displayed from a variety of angles.
The exhibitions change every three weeks and the artists themselves are selected by the Exhibition Committee after consideration of applications. For those who are interested in purchasing a work of art they can gain expert advice from the union on paintings in particular or in regards to choosing a suitable artwork to buy. The helpful members of staff here can also provide information on portrait artists and artists specialising in a particular technique.
The Design District of Helsinki has many galleries and shops to see, as such it can be hard to select where one should go, however, anyone with a particular interest in the visual arts, and who wishes to see paintings that are at the forefront of contemporary art in Finland, should choose the TM Galleria as one of their must go to places.
