Since its opening in December 2010, Centre Commercial has been creating buzz among Parisians seeking the newest trends. Started by the same members who established the French fashion brand Veja2010年12月にオープンして以来、新しい感度を持つ人々のあいだで話題になっている「サントル・コマーシャル」。フランスのファッション・ブランド「ベジャ」を設立したメンバーが始めた店で、このブランドの哲学が、セレクトショップというかたちで表現されている。ベジャはエコロジカルなスニーカー、バッグ、アクセサリーを作るブランド。サイドにVマークがあしらわれた、ここのスニーカーを履いた若者を、パリでは多く見かける。
英語で「モール」という意味のサントル・コマーシャルは、ベジャのアイテムに通じるオーガニックコットンを用いた衣服の他に、ジャーナリズムをテーマとした書籍、自転車などを扱う。扱っている商品はフランスをはじめ、ヨーロッパ・メイドのものが多く、どのブランドも産地から製造過程に至るまで、フェアな過程で行なわれている。ここに、衣服に対するスマートな態度が感じられる。日本で知名度の高いセント・ジェームス、レペットも扱うが、あくまでも店のカラーにあったものだけを揃えるというスタンスが気持ち良い。
内装はクレバー・マティアスによるネオンとスタッフのハンドワークがミックスされている。例えば店をオープンする際に、壁を再塗装せず、アブストラクトな状態に留めるところなど、感覚的な判断が素晴らしい。
来店の際は、商品に限らず、ものに手を取って質問してみてはどうだろう。好奇心は収まるどころか、感度のツボを何カ所も押されてしまうに違いない。

Text and photo: Shotaro Okada, the shop holds the same philosophy as the fashion label. Veja produces ecological sneakers, bags, and accessories. Sneakers with sides emblazoned with the label’s V mark are often spotted on the streets of Paris.
Centre Commercial, which means “mall” in English, sells organic cotton clothing much like Veja, but also offers books that fall under journalism, and even bicycles. Mostly French-made or from other European countries, their products promise fair production processes from origination to the manufacturing line. A smart and sensible attitude towards clothing exists at Centre Commercial. While brand names familiar to Japan, such as Saint James and Repetto, are sold here as well, it is refreshing to see an establishment choose items so carefully in order to offer a consistent line of merchandise.
The interior of the store is a collaboration featuring neon signs by Kleber Matheus and works by the shop staff. When first opening the store, the staff, instead of giving a complete paint job, left the walls in abstract conditions. Such aesthetic senses shine at Centre Commercial.
When visiting this store, try picking up articles and asking questions to the staff. Not only will your queries be answered, but your own aesthetic senses will also be stimulated by what you find out.
