汽車道Kishamichi

The Kishamichi Promenade is a boardwalk located near the Nippon Maru Memorial Park and can be accessed via the Sakuragicho Station. As its name suggests – ‘kisha’ meaning ‘train’ – railway tracks line the boardwalk桜木町駅から日本丸メモリアルパークに行き着くと、その脇から延びている遊歩道「汽車道」。路面にはその名が示すように、かつて新港埠頭へ物資を輸送するために使われた臨港鉄道の遺構である、趣き深いレール跡が残っている。
３基のトラス橋も、実はそれぞれ横浜市の歴史的建造物に認定された貴重な橋梁だ。桜木町寄りの２つは、1907年にアメリカン・ブリッジ・カンパニー社によって建造された米国式の代表的なトラス橋。新港地区寄りの残りの１つは、英国式のワーレン・トラス橋で、日本で初めての鉄道橋と同じ構造となっている。
汽車道はみなとみらい地区を眺める隠れた名スポットでもある。目の前に遮るものなく、高層ビル群が広がり、夜になれば水面に光が反射して、絶好の夜景スポットとなる。桜木町駅から新港埠頭エリアへの最短経路でもあり、横浜観光には欠かせない散策ルートのひとつだ。

The Kishamichi Promenade is one of the more popular spots where you can view the best of the Minatomirai district. There you can enjoy an unobstructed panoramic view of the area at night with a cluster of skyscrapers and shining lights reflecting on the water. The Kishamichi Promenade is a must-see place when visiting Yokohama, as it offers you a shortest path from Sakuragicho Station to the Shinko Pier area.
