Yokohama Nogakudo which is the facility for watching Noh (traditional masked dance drama) and Kyogen (traditional short comedic drama) is located in the middle of the sober atmosphere adjacent to街の喧噪から少し離れた掃部山公園に隣接して、能と狂言を観賞するための施設、横浜能楽堂はある。趣のある舞台は130年余りの歴史を誇る。舞台は染井時代の材を生かして建てられており、通常は老松（おいまつ）しか描かれていない鏡板に白梅が配されているのが特徴だ。
横浜能楽堂の本舞台「旧染井能舞台」は明治８年に東京・根岸の旧加賀藩主、前田斉泰邸に建てられ、後に東京・染井の松平頼寿邸に移築され、昭和40年まで広く利用されていた。その後、横浜に移築・復元され現在では関東地方最古の舞台で、全国的にも８番目に古い貴重な舞台となっている。
横浜能楽堂では毎月第２日曜日の「狂言の日」に2000円で狂言２曲を解説付きで楽しめる公演を行っており、初めて狂言を観る人におすすめだ。『能は少し敷居が高いと思われる方は、狂言は言葉もカジュアルでわかりやすいので、ぜひ１度公演を観て、そのかっこよさを味わっていただきたい。』と担当者の方は話す。
また自由見学は開館時間内ならいつでもできるが、月に１度の施設見学会（第２木曜日）では普段立ち入ることのできない舞台裏をみることができる。無料の展示スペースでは、装束や楽器など能楽にまつわるものを展示する常設展と公演に合わせた企画展を行っている。
来館者に大人気なのがお土産、「鏡板」の落雁。売切れてしまうほどの人気なので、見つけたらぜひ手に入れてみてほしい。また、お土産コーナーには能の世界の本も充実している。公演の際には外国人向けに英文の解説も用意している。

Text: Saori Hashiguchi Kamonyama park, apart from the din and bustle of the Yokohama city. The elegant stage has a long history going back more than 130 years. It was built using special lumber and features a drawing of old pines and white plums on a paneling.
The main stage of Yokohama Nogakudo called “former Somei Noh stage”was built in the house of Nariyasu Maeda (former head of Kaga Domain) located in Negishi, Tokyo in 1875(the Meiji period). The stage was extensively utilized until 1965 (the Showa period) after moving to the house of Yorinaga Matsudaira located in Somei, Tokyo.
The spokesperson recommends a special offer in“the day of Kyogen”(the 2nd Sunday of every month) featuring two Kyogen songs with a booklet for 2000 yen is the best opportunity for the first visit of Kyogen before watching the more formal Noh.
There is a monthly facility tour (held on 2nd Thursday) that can give you an opportunity to see the backstage. And also permanent and temporary exhibitions featuring the costumes and instruments about them are often held.
English booklets are prepared for foreign visitors when performances are held. There are many books about Noh in the souvenir department. And the popular souvenir “Rakugan” (the sweet of soybean and rice flour mixed with sugar) satisfies visitor’s appetites.
