Known for BOTANIKA and TAISHI NOBUKUNI, a fashion designer Taishi Nobukuni explores his creativity with the high quality of tailoring, attracting people with his overwhelming presence as a designer「BOTANIKA」 (ボタニカ)、「TAISHI NOBUKUNI」（タイシノブクニ）を展開する、デザイナー信國太志。さまざまなメディアに見る彼のインタビューは、テーラリングのクオリティの高さとともに、デザイナーとしての圧倒的な存在感から引き込まれる者も多い。そんな信國太志がデザインするアイテムが全ライン取り揃う、南青山にあるオンリーショップ、「13 THIRTEEN」（サーティーン）。
チャーリー・アレンのもとで、英国伝統のビスポークテーラーを学び、ジョン・ガリアーノのもとで修行したそのテーラリングの技法は、「BOTANIKA」の前身である「TAISHI NOBUKUNI」でも存分に発揮され、テーラリングが持つ力強さと美しさを私たちに再確認させてくれる。伝統的な手法を大切にしながらも、独自に解釈しアレンジするバランス感覚は、タケオキクチのクリエイティブディレクター就任当時にも十二分に活かされていた。
イタリア語で植物という意味を持つ「BOTANIKA」では、オーガニックコットンや天然染色を基本とする、環境を意識した服づくりをコンセプトにしている。染色技術が進化したことで、鮮やかな色味や柔らかな風合いもアップしたオーガニックコットン。Tシャツやボクサーパンツなどのインナー系、デイリーなホームウエアを取り揃えたリラクシングウェア、そして時代性というエッセンスを加味したコレクションラインから構成されている。
デザイナーのライフスタイルの変化から、個人の志向を越えたものに彼自身の興味が移行し、より多くの人が感じられる気持ちよさを、とにかく“かっこいい服づくり”を通して伝えたかったという。南青山のオンリーショップの他に、ラブレスやバーニーズ・ニューヨークでも、一部ブランドの取り扱いがある。
ところで、「13」にはどんな由来があるのだろう。
『西洋的な迷信への疑問。４は果たして悪い数字でしょうか？』そんな答えが、デザイナーから返ってきた。

Text: mina. The THIRTEEN is the only shop located in Aoyama, where you can find all lineup of his design.
Studied the traditional British bespoke tailor under Charlie Allen and trained under John Galliano, his technique of tailoring has been fully exercised on TAISHI NOBUKUNI, the predecessor to BOTANIKA, re-introducing us the dynamism and aesthetic of tailoring. Taking good use of the traditional technique with his own interpretation of arranged way of tailoring, he has demonstrated the sense when he worked as a creative director for Takeo Kikuchi.
The concept for BOTANICA is to make environmentally conscious clothes based on using organic cotton and natural dyeing. Taking advantage of evolved dyeing techniques, they features organic-cotton-made relaxing home wares including T shirts and boxer shorts, and the collection line with an essence of the age.
Because of his change in his lifestyle, Nobukuni has made a transition of his interest to something beyond his intention. He mentioned that he wanted to deliver universal comfort through “cool way to make clothes”. Besides THIRTEEN, there are few shops where carry his brand such as Loveless and Barneys New York.
By the way, where is the name “13” originated from?
“A question to the Western superstition. Is 4 really a bad number?” replied the designer.
