占冠（しむかっぷ）村のアルファリゾート・トマムにオープンした「雲海テラス」が北海道の新しい観光名所として人気となっている。雲海は特別な地形条件と気象条件が重なったときにしか見られない自然現象Unkai Terrace was opened in Alpha Resort Tomamu located in Shimukappu village and became a new hot tourist attraction. Unkai (means sea of clouds) is a very rarely seen natural phenomena. It can only be seen in the special location and weather. Soaking up the morning sun, you take a gondola up to 1100m high mountaintop terrace.You will be above clouds, where you can see the fantastic world.
In the terrace, you can enjoy various views with coffee and breakfast. It is a special morning for early risers. As it depends on weather, Unkai cannot be seen everyday. The terrace is open only for summer time. If you are lucky enough, you will have this impressive experience. During the period gondola’s running, you can enjoy hiking as well.
Alpha Resort Tomamu is also known for the Chapel on the Water which was designed by Tadao Ando. In this place, you can enjoy playing golf, riding a hot-air ballon and rafting for summer. For winter, skiing and visiting Ice Village and Ice on the chapel. This resort is one of the resort places in Hokkaido where you can visit throughout a year. This terrace would be “must visit” place in summer.

雲海テラスでは、様々な表情をみせる景色を眺めながらコーヒーや朝食を楽しめる。早起きした人だけが体験できる特別な朝だ。雲海は気象条件によるものなので毎日必ず見られるものではない。営業も夏期間だけとなっている。運良く綺麗な雲海を見れた日は必ず感動の体験があるはずだ。ゴンドラ運行期間中はハイキングも楽しめる。
アルファリゾート・トマムは、安藤忠雄設計の「水の教会」があることでも知られている。夏はゴルフ、熱気球やラフティング、冬期はスキーが楽しめ、「アイスビレッジ」、「氷の教会」が現れるなど、年中通して利用できる北海道有数のリゾート地のひとつだ。雲海テラスは、夏のイベントとしてぜひ訪れたい場所のひとつだろう。
