Japanese-style ryokan inn Kashima Honkan has stood on the approach to Hakata’s famous Kushida Shrine since long ago, preserving the spirit and tradition of Hakata through the ages. A traditional sukiya-style building博多の名所櫛田神社の参道に古くからあり、永きに渡り博多の伝統と情緒を守り続けている和風旅館 鹿島本館。大正時代～昭和初期に建てられたという京都の名匠による数奇屋造りの建物をそのままに、木の温もりのある客室は27部屋。部屋から眺めることのできる美しい日本庭園、街中にありながら閑静なたたずまい。多くの海外旅行者に人気なのもうなずける、完璧な純和風旅館だ。2007年に有形文化財として登録されている。
博多駅からもほど近い祇園駅すぐという立地も、観光の拠点としても動きやすい。

From these rooms one can gaze out upon a beautiful Japanese-style garden which has a tranquil atmosphere despite being situated in town. Popular with many overseas visitors, it’s a perfect example of the purely Japanese ryokan and in 2007 was registered as a Yukeibunkazai cultural asset. Its location close to both Hataka station and nearby Gion station also makes it an ideal base for sightseeing activities.
