フローニンゲン美術館Groninger Museum

アムステルダムから電車で3時間、オランダの一番北のフローニンゲンにあるフェルビンディングス運河の上に建てられたフローニンゲン美術館は、その建物自体が美術作品である。全体の設計はアレッサンドロ・メンディーニThe Groninger Museum is build on the Verbindings Canal at Groninger, a town in the northern Netherlands, take 3 hours by train from Amsterdam. The new Groninger Museum is not merely a casing for art, it is a work of art in itselfが行い、フィリップ・スタルク、ミケーレ・デ・ルッキ、コープ・ヒンメルブラウが参加している。コープ・ヒンメルブラウによる外観のデザインは、デコン（脱構築主義）建築を代表する貴重な作品で建物を象徴するものとなっている。
建物は独立した３つの部分が重なるように通路でつながれており、それぞれの形、色、素材がそれぞれの機能を表している。建物の中心的存在となる金色の塔を持つエントランス。大きな窓がある南側の緑色の棟では、ミュージアムのコレクションでもある様々なデザイナーの手掛けた家具があるカフェ。ここからは運河の景色を楽しむことができる。東側の棟では、ジェフ・クーンズやヴィクター＆ロルフ、イネス・ヴァン・ラムズウィールドをはじめとする現代美術コレクションを展示している。

http://www.groningermuseum.nl, a principle that is occurring to an increasing extent in contemporary (museum) architecture. The ultimate design by the Italian Alessandro Mendini and the three guest architects Philippe Starck, Michele de Lucchi, and Coop Himmelb[l]au was completed in 1994.
The tall golden tower at the centre of the building is the most striking object. Mendini regards this part as the heart of the Museum. The golden colour refers to the precious contents. The green section on the south side is equipped with large windows: this is the café/restaurant from where visitors can enjoy a fine panorama of passing boats out across the water. The café contains furniture by various designers who are also represented in the Museum’s collection.
The ‘classical’ museum layout is presented on the east side of the building. Three pavilions have been placed on top of one another here. The bottom one (Mendini) is trapezium-shaped and consists of two floors. Mendini designed both the interior and the exterior. The rooms on the ground floor are devoted to temporary exhibitions varying in nature. The rooms on the first floor (Mendini 2) are furnished with a continually changing selection from the Museum’s own collection of Contemporary Visual Art include include Jeff Koons, Viktor & Rolf, Inez van Lamsweerde etc.
Himmelb(l)au’s designs are characterised by their experimental nature. The design for the Groninger Museum is a typical example of the latest architectural current, deconstructivism. This style typifies the present-day zap culture.
