「京都府京都文化博物館」は、日本のふるさと・京都の歴史と文化をわかりやすく紹介する総合的な文化施設として、1988年にオープン。Opened in 1988 as a general cultural center, The Museum of Kyoto introduces the culture and history of the Japanese traditional以来、京都文化を紹介し、優れた伝統文化に触れるることができる様々な展示やイベント、様々なワークショップなどの活動を通し、地域や京都の文化を知り、そこから世界へと興味が広がってゆくという試みがなされている。
常設の歴史展示室では、1200年に渡る京都の歴史を大きく二つに分け展示。一つは、京都の歴史を時代ごとに展示、もう一つは、時代で位置づけることのできない文化的事象を「京のまつり」「匠の世界」「えがかれた京」「能と狂言」「宗家の地」と五つのテーマに絞り展示している。
京都は日本の映画産業発祥の地でもある。京都で製作された作品を中心に古典・名作映画約780作品を所蔵。収集してきたフィルムを上映している。映画上映は木曜日から日曜日の週４回、１日２回（13時30分〜、17時00分〜）の２回。映像ホールの開場は上映開始の30分前。定員は100名。夕方の回が比較的空いているのでおすすめ。
また、別館（写真）は国の重要文化財・旧日本銀行京都支店の建物で、三条通を中心とする「界わい景観整備地区」における景観重要建築物のひとつとして保存公開（入場無料）していて、ホールでは展覧会、音楽会等の文化催事も開催されている。（有料の場合あり）
京都へ行く際には一度ここで、京都の歴史を見て楽しみ学び、知った上でぜひ観光をしてはどうだろう。
歴史展示の案内をするボランティア（MOKの会）による英語通訳サービスもある。要予約の上申し込むのが確実。

As known as Kyoto is a home for starting the film industry in Japan, the museum holds the collection of 780 film works, mainly classics and masterpieces, produced in Kyoto, and screens the films twice a day, 4 days a week.
Formally used as a building for the Kyoto branch for Bank of Japan, the annex is designated as a nationally important cultural property and is opened for the public viewing for free and for the use for events and exhibitions. There is a service for English translation by a volunteer group, MOK for a guide tour of the historical exhibitions.
