バードヘッドBirdhead
バードヘッドは上海を拠点に活躍するアーティスト集団。彼らが住む上海の日常生活をモノクロで撮影するスナップが特徴的だ。Birdhead is an artist team based in Shanghai. They print out the photos they took, most of which are ones of daily lives of the city, and paste them on the outdoor walls on the street or buildings.その活躍の場は上海の有名なギャラリーをはじめ世界中に広がり、個展、グループ展と勢力的に参加している。2009年1月16日から2月22日までシャンハートギャラリー・北京で開催されている展覧会では今まで彼らが撮影した作品を見る事ができる。新しいプロジェクトも始まり、ますます活躍の場を広げるバードヘッドにお話を伺った。
自己紹介と最近の活動について教えてください。
私達は2004年より２人でチームを組んでいます。現在「バードヘッド・パトロール」（別名：BDHD-MP）と呼ばれるプロジェクトを行なっています。街での日常生活など、私達が撮ってきた写真をプリントアウトし、そしてそれらを屋外の壁やストリート、ビルに貼っていきます。私達はこれらの写真を貼っていく場所をランダムに選んでいます。
上海について教えてください。ご自身や仕事をする上でその街で暮らすことについてどう思いますか？
私達の住む街の上海には、 2000万人以上が居住しています。中国本土の東側にあり、東シナ海と交わる揚子江があります。この街には２つの川があります。１つは広く深い「黄浦江」、もう１つはあまり深くなく浅い「苏州河」です。そこには高速道路と地下鉄、年中無休・24時間営業のスーパーマーケットがあります（これらは10年前にはどれもありませんでした）。私達はこの都市で育っているので、特別な感情はありません。それは私達が自分の性別や皮膚の色を選ぶ事が出来ない様なものです。私達は上海人です。そしてそれは私達次第ではないことなのです。
上海で好きな場所を教えてください。
私達は観光客や訪問客にどの場所もおすすめしません。なぜなら都市は高速に変化しており、いつでも同じものを見られるわけではないからです。もしどうしてもというなら、黄浦江近くの堤防やその近辺です。
Birdhead
1980年上海生まれのジ・ウェイユィと1979年上海生まれのソング・タオによって2004年に結成。２人とも上海美術工芸学校卒業。2005年より本格的に活動を開始し、中国を拠点に様々な展覧会に参加。国内外に活動の拠点を広げている。2008年には作品集「Birdhead 2006 Album」を発売。 As expanding their activities in the well-known galleries in Shanghai and overseas, they started to exhibit their works in the solo exhibitions as well as the group shows. In recent project, you can view their works at ShanghART Gallery till 22nd of February.
Please tell us yourself and your recent activity.
We are a team of two people. We started to cooperate on 2004. We are now doing a project called “Birdhead Patrol” (aka “BDHD-MP”), i.e., we print out the photos we’ve been taking, most of which are ones of daily lives of this city, and paste them on the outdoor walls on the street or buildings. We choose the spots randomly for pasting these photos.
Please tell us about your city, and how about living in your city for yourself/activity.
Our city is called “Shanghai”, which populates over 20 million people. It’s on the eastest part of mainland China, where the Yangtze River meets the East Sea. There are two rivers in the city, the broader and deeper one named “Huang Pu River”, the shallower and less deep one named “Suzhou River”. There are high ways and metro and 24/7 supermarkets…None of these ten years ago. We grow up in the city so we feel nothing special, it’s just as if we could not choose our sex, or the color of our skin. We are Shanghainese. And it’s not up to us.
Please tell us a favourite places in the city you live and work in.
We recommend NOT ANY places to the tourists or visitors because the city is changing so fast that you cannot see the same thing each time. Or if we have to, let’s say, the Bund near the Huang Pu River. Both sides of it.
Birdhead
Ji Weiyu was born in Shanghai in 1980. Song Tao was born in Shanghai in 1979. They graduated from the Shanghai Arts and Crafts School in 2000. From 2005, they started numerous exhibitions based in China. In 2008 “Birdhead 2006 Album” was pre-ordered.
