デザイナーズホテル「ホテル・フォックス」が2005年、デンマークの首都、コペンハーゲンにオープンした。若い世代をターゲットとした「フォルクスワーゲンFOX」の発売キャンペーンで、21人のアーティストが61個の部屋をリデザインIn 2005, the Hotel FOX opened in Copenhagen, the capital city of Denmark. In the city of mostly brick-red, Hotel Fox stands strikingly with white walls and the colorful eaves in each windowした。
ホテル・フォックスはレンガ色の多い街並の中で、真っ白な壁面に各部屋の窓についたカラフルなひさしで、浮き上がるように建っている。中に入ると、吹き抜けのガラスから差し込む陽に、明るく照らされた壁一面のパンダロサの作品が目に飛び込んできた。その大きさなのに圧迫感の無い、どこかを漂っているような作品だ。目を離したすきに、形が変わってしまいそうな浮遊感があり、ホテルのロビーという、到着地点でもあり出発地点でもある場所にしっくりとはまっていた。
廊下にはアーティストがデザインしたカーペットが敷かれ、階段の踊り場の壁面も作品で埋められている。廊下に面したドアもその部屋をデザインしたアーティストが担当し、宿泊する部屋以外の作品も垣間見ることができる。まるで、ホテルという一つの大きな展示会場に61個もの小さな会場があるような感じで、ドアを眺めながら歩き回っているだけでも、うきうきとしてくる。
アーティストの中には３、４週間かけて、壁に直接ドローイングをしたり、ペイントしたりと、いろいろな思いが込められている。通常のホテルでは考えられないアイディアの宝庫でもある。部屋の中にいるのに、天気の良い日の庭にいるような気分になる部屋や、天井からキャラクターがゴムで吊るされた遊び心たっぷりのもの。白を基調としたクールな部屋など。
ホテルFOXは今のところ、５年間の営業が予定されている。機会をつくってでも行っておきたい場所だ。

Going inside, a work by Pandarosa covering the whole face of a front wall grabbed my attention, lit-up with sunlight from a skylight. Regardless of size, it doesn’t give an oppressive feeling as if it is floating somewhere. It seemed as if it would change its shape if I moved my eyes away, and is exactly suited to a lobby, which is for both arrival and departure.
Hallways are covered by specially designed carpet, and also the walls in the landings are filled with exhibits. Moreover, each artist designed the doors facing the hallway. Therefore, you can see a part of other works, not only the room you are staying in. It is exciting just to walk around watching the doors as if there are 61 pieces in one big exhibition place called a hotel.
Some artists took 3 or 4 weeks to draw or paint directly onto the wall, and each artist approached the work in various ways. It is like an unusually plentiful treasure house of ideas; a room that you can feel as if you are in a garden on a fine day, a room which has characters hanged from the ceiling, a room based on all white color, etc.
Hotel Fox has a projected life of five-years at this time. So, you should go while you can.
